Yeah, I love Superbad, but I graduated hs in 99 - American Pie will always be at the top of the list for me.

Can't Hardly Wait is another for that time is great to me.

yeah baw

If the allegations are true, there’s no way the Viacom bosses haven’t come out and directly threatened all of the girls. Like I’m talking about levels of up to killing them and their families. That’s how big of a horrific secret this is if it were ever exposed.

This statement is absolutely true but the answer is still Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Superbad and Can't Hardly Wait are tied for the GOAT teen comedies.

Both represented what HS was like at their respective times.

i'd add Wedding Crashers as a great post-college era comedy

Eugene Levy said recently the scenes where he's going through the porn mag with Jason he adlibbed everything and they had a hard time keeping any of the footage because Jason kept laughing.

'99 for me too, and i concur. i love Superbad, and it definitely holds up, but CHW and AP are probably my two most nostalgic high school comedies. van wilder for college

I watched Superbad for the first time in years last weekend and it was absolutely HILARIOUS still. Holds up well.

It's up there for Teen-esque comedy movies, but calling it THE GOAT might be hard for me. I wouldn't fault someone who did though. My sides hurt whenever I watch this movie.

Loved Can't Hardly Wait, loved EuroTrip, loved Napoleon Dynamite, loved Not Another Teen Movie. Superbad would be playing for 5th, at best, and that's just in the 2000s.

You're high as giraffe pussy.

Superbad is a much, much much better film than all of those combined.

Those are fun movies, with some funny moments. But they are not anything compared to as well crafted, and as funny as Superbad.

Its a movie that will stand the test of time, and has so far. The others are largely being forgotten.

That depends on if you consider

Animal House and PCU as teen comedies or not. Those two alone would be among the best on any of these listed

The same goes for Heathers.

Not Another Teen Movie was on his list, if you didn't see.

The only argument for Superbad over NATM is that NATM isn't a direct comparison. It's a spoof and not a straight teen comedy, like Superbad.

*ETA: both are great. So is American Pie (or was, it's not as funny if you weren't there in the moment). 80s teen comedies dropped when I was a yute, but I understand why they're valued so much by Gen X

Correct.

Spoofs do not fit into the category of film we are discussing imo.

NATM spoofs teen films brilliantly, but it itself does not fall under the "Teen Comedy" label.

I was just out of HS when American Pie came out, so I loved it, and it was awesome at the time.

Personally, I don't think it has aged anywhere near as well as Superbad is aging.

The biggest problem with American Pie is that, as a movie, it's pretty shitty. Terrible acting, directing, etc.

That's fine in the moment, but in retrospect it's relegated to stoner/grossout/sex comedy status.

It takes a very, very special movie to age well from those categories. Like Dude Where's my Car, Euro Trip, Road Trip, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, or the OG Harold and Kumar.
