Yes. i think it's the best comedy of the 2000s. Not sure if thats an unpopular opinion or not.

It's actually Not Another Teen Movie.

Because it cuts through the tribalism of generational bias.

I mean I know people who hate Superbad because it's not on the same level as teen 80s comedy. .And there are people who dislike Breakfast Club or Fast Times...(I don't know why)

You’ll probably catch a bunch of downvotes because you asked if it’s “tGOAT,” but it’s easily one of my favorites, and it always kills me. Michael Cera especially. His sort of quiet brand of humor in it is just perfect. He has so many toss away lines that crack me up just because of the way he delivers them.

I did a rewatch of SB recently and it still cracks me up. I think it's the GOAT of the raunchy teen movies.

Can't Hardly Wait is up there too, of the cleaner variety

I didn't get the appeal.

Loved Can't Hardly Wait, loved EuroTrip, loved Napoleon Dynamite, loved Not Another Teen Movie. Superbad would be playing for 5th, at best, and that's just in the 2000s.

ETA - in no way would it ever crack the top 10 for GOAT in all decades, and I don't count The Breakfast Club as a comedy. It has comedic elements/moments, but it's nothing like Highes' other work.

There's a case to be made for Sixteen Candles, Ridgemont High and even Weird Science, but I'd say GOAT IS Ferris Bueller.

I’m not sure about GOAT status but it’s a fricking hilarious movie.

All time? I dunno. That’s hard because each generation will typically favor the one that came out in their time.

The 80s had the John Hughes stuff.
The 90s had American Pie
The 00s had Superbad

Is there even anything to list for the 10s and 20s so far?

Superbad is great

As it continues to age, I think people forget how massive American Pie was and how it gave a rebirth to the raunchy comedies.

Great cast
Great soundtrack
Great set of tits

It’s just summarized that time period of teen angst so well

I think it depends on when you were born. It's not my GOAT teen comedy, but it's definitely in the pantheon with the other classics though.

American Pie
Porky's
Superbad
Not Another Teen Movie
Road Trip
Can't Hardly Wait
Van Wilder
Fast Times
Dazed and Confused
16 Candles
Ferris Bueller
Revenge of the Nerds
Varsity Blues
Clueless

Man, it's crazy how many of those are from late 90s - early 00s. What a great era for comedies.

For my generation, graduating high school in 2007.. heading off to college that august superbad came out… it’s a core memory for me

I’ve never heard a theater laugh constantly for 2 straight hours

I think it all depends on the time period that the viewer was a teen in and/or the environment that they grew up in.

I was a teen in the early 2000s and a sophomore in college when Superbad came out so it’s definitely up there for me. But I also grew up in a small rural town where the events of Dazed and Confused were a “movied up” version of our typical Friday and Saturday nights, so I hold it up close to GOAT status too.

My personal top 5 in no particular order would probably be:
Superbad
Dazed and Confused
10 Things I Hate About You
Varsity Blues
Napoleon Dynamite

HM and could probably make the list on any particular day I’m asked to name a top 5:
American Pie
Breakfast Club
Fast Times
Not Another Teen Movie.

Maybe greatest of its decade, not all time.

it obviously does, agreed. i was like 16 when superbad came out. it is by far the movie we still quote and know the most. it's a clear number 1 for my age group. the quest to get alcohol and get to a party on a friday night is an ageless plot.

others in contention for us would be not another teen movie, wedding crashers, anchorman, stepbrothers (probably tier below).

ive seen all the "classics" from every era and the ones from my era, i find the funniest (no shite). i really honestly do enjoy and appreciate everything from animal house to revenge of the nerds to dazed and confused (love this movie, in particular, but dont find it remotely close comedy wise) to can't hardly wait to american pie.

my general outlook is that a lot of those are great movies and probably better movies, but they aren't remotely close to as funny.
