Stop this nonsense. I don’t want to give up my Saturday afternoon for your kid. Let’s stop this charade. Have a little family party with your immediate family.

I went to a swim party for my kid's flag football team yesterday. shite was cash.

We had one at a climbing place.

Everybody was into it.
Repelling, climbing, obstacles.
Needed other adults for safety reasons, but they did all the climbing, repelling too.

It was actually time well spent. The dads really got into it attempting all sorts of climbs and repels.

No alcohol, but I’m not sure you’d want it in that setting.

We make it a point to go to the parties after we had one for our daughter and only one showed up. Can't expect people to go to yours if you don't go to theirs.

This is my point. You don’t want to go, I don’t want to go, so just stop the charade. Invite your close friends and family. You don’t have to invite the whole fricking class.

Heaven borbid the child do something fun with his or her classmates.

I assume you hate taking them to the park as well.

What did you expect to do when you had a child with all your time. Never let them do something that doesn't entertain you?

I don't do it for me. I do it for my daughter. She wanted a party with her friends. Her conduct at school has been great this year. She deserved it.

How doesn't that sound like a good time. What do you do with your friends on a casual Saturday afternoon?

Get drunk somewhere.

To be fair, I don’t have kids so I think it’s understandable that I dislike kid birthday parties.

One of my husband's friends said he had a great time at my sons birthday party in a comment on a photo i posted on Facebook.

He is just laying the ground work. You never want the first time you have lunch with someone to be the time you ask for help with a job.

I do this too with the my kid’s friend’s moms just in case my wife dies or ever sees the comments I leave other women on Facebook.

That’s rude. Same with wedding showers. Part of the fun is watching the guest open. Otherwise, it seems like a gift grab.

Fun? Watching people open gifts is the worst part IMO

My buddy whose house we are at for jazz fest had to take his son to a party at Audubon zoo yesterday at 10 am after raging all night and getting barely any sleep. He survived.

If it keeps the kids entertained and wears them out, I’ll go in your place.

Cherry on top if there’s booze.

The problem is the elementary schools want you to invite all the kids or zero kids.

I'm staring at 20 birthday parties for kids I don't know and my kid doesn't even play with.

Because I have social anxiety and genuinely dislike children that aren't my own.

Good OT thread.

We’ve got the usual holier than thou OT super parents who in their eyes are correct about everything and bring their kids to every possible activity possible

OT alcoholics who have to be fricked up to attend social events

And the OT parents who are apparently turning their kids into hermits.

Good job everyone.

I like the kid birthday party in Mad Men. One of the dads snatched up someone else’s misbehaving kid and whipped his arse. Nobody blinked an eye.

What age group are you talking about? Under 5 I can kinda agree with you. Those can be a shite show.

My kid wanted to go to Main Event for his birthday. He just invited one friend. The mom's hung out while the kids played. I paid for it. Kids had a good time. This was the first one we really did, he just turned 8.

I have a friend that does a birthday party for his two kids. He has a nice pool for the kids to swim and he grills and the parents hang out.

I wish my kid got to go to more bday parties at this point.
