King County, like many counties nationwide, is facing a fentanyl epidemic. The King County Prosecutor’s Office cited 685 overdoses related to fentanyl in 2022, eight years removed from 2015’s mark of just three.

I’m afraid this is just the beginning for the whole country with everything being laced with fentanyl and people who overdose on it did not know it had fentanyl in whatever drug they were using.

Gone are the days of doing a little coke at a college house party without OD’ing from fentanyl.

I gotta be honest, I don't care. People are rolling a set of loaded dice at this point.

It's why I worry about eating at restaurants sometimes, never know who spilled something on their shirt or whatever.

How long has fentanyl been widely available on the street?

Local news crew here in Spokane did a story on fentanyl and had an interview at a fire station and they said they now spend most of their shift going from fentanyl OD to fentanyl OD.

I don't completely understand the fentanyl thing...why would you intentionally poison/kill your customer base, even for increased profits ... that won't work longterm.

A 38 year old kid, I say kid because I knew him when he little, died of a fentanyl overdose recently. He had been off of drugs for awhile and apparently picked up at what he was used to ingesting. It was too much.

We can quit drinking alcohol for awhile and we can survive a bad hangover. But those drugs can kill us. I’ve heard of it around here too many times.

Profit margins are massive. ~$500 can generate $100k in profit. Much easier to get into the US/European markets than the real thing. Sadly synthetic drugs will only get stronger and more addictive.

ETA: BTW, Fentanyl is a Schedule 2 narcotic and Marijuana is a Schedule 1 according to the CSA. Dumbest shite ever.

At least the Gulf cartel apologized after Americans are kidnapped and killed in Mexico.

Fentanyl is incredibly potent, cheap, and addicting. It’s used to cut a variety of drugs and things like Narcan don’t work for ODs. Also, drug addicts are mentally broken so they chase the high and when you chase a high like Fentanyl in the same way you always did with heroin or cocaine you just end up dead instead of in a hospital

Thanks to America basically decriminalizing open drug communities in major cities there’s no shortage of addicts and junkies for them to keep pushing fentanyl into.

We desperately need to get a grip on mental health, addiction counseling, and rehabilitation in this country and stop pretending every homeless person is some kind of innocent victim of capitalism or whatever stupid shite people keep saying.

Despite what the media and communists will tell you, Homeless people are mentally ill drug addicts desperately in need of help not innocent moms and dads down on their luck because of conservative tax and business policies and the last thing they need is free money and no consequences.

I have known several people that have died of ODs in the past 5-7 years. They were mostly regular people, not hardened criminals.

I just don't understand.

I guess I don't understand addiction. I don't get how you could see what's going on and still do cocaine or any drug that could be laced with something else. Is it a "it won't happen to me" mindset?

I agree that there are people like that guy in BR recently but there are also things like HS kids thinking they are taking a Xanax or something and it kills them. I did stupid crap like that in HS and college.
