Right on…will do. Not sure how far we’ll get up there before dark…but for sure on the ride home. My son will make the trip countless times, so a good scenic route is something he’ll take for sure.

Looking forward to a full Saturday in Fayetteville. This will be our first winter visit.

yea, for scenery I wouldn't recommend the pig trail in the dark, it's just a curvy road through the hills at night.

Louisiana is unique. If you’re moving anywhere from Louisiana, you’re probably going to feel this strange cultural deficit. I know this board jokes about “culture” but the reality is this. If you grew up in Louisiana, you were immersed into a culture that is both unique, rich, and proud. It’s distinct yet sometimes hard to even explain. At the end of the day, Louisiana folks will take care of any and everyone in crisis. We are used to showing up, helping and not asking questions because we’ve all been through multiple life altering disasters as a community and a people. Add in our food, our pride, our pension for football and all things LSU, our faith and Catholic roots…it makes for a dynamic upbringing and culture.

Arkansas is vanilla AF. But then again, so are most states not named Louisiana. That can be a great thing, though. I’m raising kids and the lack of “excitement” with traffic, natural disasters and whatever else makes for a less stressful daily existence.

My situation is a bit different in that I relocated from the Mississippi Gulf Coast to southern Missouri but I understand a lot of what you're saying here.

My work assignment is northern Arkansas and southern Missouri so I get to see some great views, winters don't bother me too much, cost of living is great, I like it here.

I've gotten used the "vanilla" so going back down South is a shock at times, it all feels much trashier, dirtier, more hardscrabble, and tougher than I remember it growing up.

Is calling the hogs only a football tradition…or will it be done at basketball games too? I’ve gotta brush up.

Thanks for the heads up.

Should be a fun trip.

Probably come up during baseball season as well. I think the recruiting rules are more lackadaisical within one mile of campus. Guessing that’s the push.

A weekend SEC series in Baum Walker is a legit experience for any baseball fan.

I like living in Northwest Arkansas but starting to get tired of the LGBT shite here.

you must be around Eureka Springs.. the freak capital of the south. We recently stayed in Jasper as a home base and commuted to a bunch of different areas. I could definately retire to the Jasper area.

It’s nice if you’re into outdoor activities like hiking and hunting. But besides that, there isn’t much else to it. Sure the northwestern part has scenery, but anyone who honestly thinks the scenery is on the level of states like Oregon or Montana are fooling themselves.

A Louisiana couple owns the Cliff House Inn.

Good food and friendly couple.

It depends on what you like. Get away from its crime-ridden cities, Louisiana has beautiful spots: Avery Island, Bayou Sauvage, Jean Lafitte, various plantations (Oak Alley, Melrose, etc.)

There is an embarrassment of riches in outdoor areas either Toledo Bend, the Atchafalaya basin, spots off the Red, the big river herself, thousands of spots to hunt, fish, hike, backpack, camp, wildlife photography, you name it.

...again outside of the dangerously crime-ridden cities.

ETA: To stay on the original topic, as a native of Louisiana I like the familiarity of Arkansas' piney woods, but with the more robust "low" mountain feel in spots.

I was born in Southwest Arkansas and have lived in Fayetteville since I started college in 1985. The growth, especially in Rogers and Bentonville the last 15-20 years has been unbelievable.

Fayetteville was an absolute blast in the late 80's and the 90's.

The Texas student population growth is starting to annoy me. I used to think I would live in Fayetteville all my life, but I am looking at options elsewhere when I retire. Don't think I can afford it up here for much longer.

There is a Buffalo River group on Facebook (I know). You would not believe how many car tires folks remove from the river as they come down. I guess even the I have lived here forever folks are guilty of throwing their garbage into the river. Kind of sad to me. Beautiful water and outdoor opportunities and a great place to dump your old tires.
