Walked out on his wife and four children, leaving them with a house mortgaged to the hilt.
I think I got this one.
I think I got this one.

Better in some areas, worse in others.
When he was at the top of his game he'd blow me away, but he mailed it in after 40 and became a shell of his former self. Loved him with all my soul though.

Decently. We both had strengths and faults.

I am 100x the man he can ever hope to be.
I am a 1000th the man my grandfather was.
I am a 1000th the man my grandfather was.

My mom, my brothers and I have always come first and I have never doubted that once in 44 years. Hardest working man I’ve ever known. While raising four sons, I can’t think of even one nice thing he ever did for himself. Didn’t get his first new truck until he retired and we were on our own, but my brothers and I had new vehicles in high school, which makes me nauseous to think about. Even though all four of his sons have very successful careers, we still have to sneak away to ask a waiter to add his and my mom’s meal to our bill lol. Can’t think of one thing I’d change about him.

My paw can whoop anybody east of the Mississippi.
And I can whoop my paw.
And I can whoop my paw.

My Dad was more stoic, more honest, more mechanically-inclined, harder- working and more materialistic. I’m more loyal, more social, more family-oriented, more generous and less ambitious. If you could combine us we’d be an ok dude. On our own, well...

I don’t know how I measure up to him as a man but I know I wouldn’t be where I am without his sacrifice to put my brothers and I in a position to succeed. He sacrificed all of his hopes, and dreams for us to make it. I can never repay him for what he’s done for me. I’m truly honored and blessed to have him as my dad!

Do not measure any where close to my dad.

and more materialistic
My dad is reasonably financially well off but doesn't care much for material possessions at all. My wife said that he dresses like a homeless man now at 70
He's single and when I go to his condo he has two plates, glasses spoons etc. He told me he likes to be able to pack everything up in an hour and roll out.

I’m a far better man than my father in virtually every facet measurable.

- Never once saw him drunk in my lifetime
- Took care of my grandparents like a saint when they got older
- Army reserves for 20 yrs, volunteer FD for 25, on top of tending to 3000 acres of farm
While he may have been an incredible guy, a lot of this is just hero worship through the eyes of a child. Never discussed politics? I'm sure he had conversations his child wasn't privy to. He wasn't as good as you think and you aren't as bad as you think.

My dad is the greatest man I’ve ever known. I do not measure up to him but man I try. If I can get close, I know I’ll be a good man, great father and husband. My goal is to try and get close because I know I’ll never surpass him in my eyes
This was hard for me to accept as well, but I have no doubt I can’t be the man my father is. Depressing at times actually

I don't think i do measure up completely to Daddy, but I am closer to measuring up to him than he and my aunts/uncles measure up to their father/my grandfather. Pop was a true gentleman in SWArky and SEOkie. He died at 92 and truly left a mark I can't ever dream of doing. I'll die an unknown comparatively.
