I have two reconstructed knees so I've never been a runner and not into the treadmill or elliptical. For the past three months I've been walking three miles a day at sunrise 5x/week. I try to get in the obligatory 10K steps per day but not always possible due to time contraints with work but I always get in 7K daily at a minimum. I have dropped 14 lbs in three months and have leaned out considerably without losing any muscle mass. I eat cleanly and have cut back drastically on alcohol consumption. Walking has been a godsend as it's easy on my joints and it's good mind therapy. My Apple Watch is great for tracking my steps & calories burned and although most fitness trackers are not 100% accurate it gives me a good baseline. It's also good for listening to music & podcasts on the walks. For those trying to drop weight/bodyfat and who hate conventional steady-state cardio give walking a try, I swear by it. There are tons of articles and You Tube videos listing the benefits. It's not just for old people!

I do 3 miles at lunch when it's cool enough that I won't sweat my arse off. It's nice to get some kind of work in that doesn't have to come after I get home in the evening.

Walking is awesome

I strongly encourage anyone who can to get a standing desk and under desk treadmill - it will change your life

I've mentioned him before, but there's an older guy I see walking close to the house. Dude is jacked. He walks about 4 miles daily with 10 lb dumbbells and does curls to presses with them.

I noticeably feel better when I’m getting 10k+ steps daily.

Even join StepBet games to hold myself accountable when I feel the laziness creeping up.

I love walking. I average about 15k steps in the fall/spring. Need to figure out something for the winter. Might get a walking pad for the house.

10-12k steps per day makes you fit and feel a lot better.

Awesome videos. Thanks for posting. I’ve recently entered the Apple Watch world and been grinding to get 10-12k/day.

I highly recommend the Steps- Activity Tracker app used in conjunction with the Modular Ultra watchface. It keeps a running total of your step progress and keeps you accountable throughout the day.

(stock photo, obviously you can have it register miles rather than kilometers)

How does the app differ from the stock watch tracker?

Is that face available on regular watch or just the ultra? I have the series 9.

I’m thinking about replacing mine with a Polar watch.

I have the original Ultra watch and that watch face came with the most recent watch update- not sure what other Apple watches it's compatible with. I used the stock step tracker until I found the Steps app and it worked fine for just counting steps but I like this interface with the new watch face better.

There’s a dude in south Huntsville that’s probably in his 80s that walks with weights on his ankle. Goes without a shirt and the old, hairy fricker is jacked.

Walking is awesome. I started last year. Dropped about 15 pounds. This year moved into functional weight training and my walking dropped off. I recently re-focused myself to make sure I was walking on my off days from the gym. Funny thing happened. I used to walk because my knees would bother me when I tried to run. My weight training has strengthened my joints as well as my muscles and I find myself wanting to jog for part of my walks. And I can do so with no pain. I thought I just had “bad knees” but I just needed to strengthen them a bit.

This dude is mid 70's if he's a day. Totally jacked. Funny part is he is always walking this little tea cup dog.

So for comparison's sake on my walk this morning I ran both the Apple proprietary steps app (top middle- 6,153 steps recorded) and the Steps app I posted above (middle- 5,177 steps). Quite a disparity between the two- almost 1K steps. Tomorrow I will run both while also carrying a pedometer to see which is more accurate. The watch was calibrated Sunday so should be fairly accurate.
