On Baseball Tonight podcast just heard that if Randy Johnson never threw a pitch in his 20's, he'd still be top 4 all time in strike outs. Nobody had a late blooming career in any sport than that man.

Warren Spahn didn't win a MLB game until he was 26, after he served in WW2

If you took away all of Hank Aaron's home runs he would still have 3000 hits.

If Barry Bonds wasn’t given a baseball bat in 2004, he’d still have the best season OBP in baseball history.

Being a late bloomer probably helped a lot with Johnson's longevity. If he was a better pitcher at a younger age, he might have developed arm problems and lacked longevity like Bret Saberhagen did.

Lots of "late bloomers" in baseball during
the '90s and early 2000s for some reason

Kurt Warner was 28 years old when he got his first start in the NFL. Went on to win a super bowl and a couple MVPs. not bad

Steve Nash was good in his 20s. 2 time all-star... In his 30s, he won 2 mvps, finished 2nd in another MVP vote. 6 all-star appearances, 4 50/40/90% seasons(and 2 made FTs away from a 5th)

That stat is wrong, from 1994 to 2009 he had 3246 strikeouts, that would put him at 13th

Yes, the claim in OP is incorrect.

Randy Johnson turned 30 on September 10, 1993.

Prior to that date, he had 1,199 strikeouts.

His career strikeout total is 4,875.

Subtracting 1,199 from 4,875 leaves 3,676 strikeouts, which would be good for 6th all time (Bert Blyleven is 5th with 3,701 and Tom Seaver would be 7th with 3,640).

Juan Manuel Fangio's first F1 race was at the age of 38. He won five world championships.

Maybe the first time Fangio has been mentioned on this board. Damn good post.
