I have no problem with gambling being legal but I see nothing but addiction when I see folks at the slots machines.. I can see the social and interactive component with table games or sports betting and enjoy both but slots is the adult version of preteens addicted to tik-tok with a high dollar cost. Senior citizens bussed in from the nursing home to dump their child's inheritance. Wives who rush to go hit the button like a gerbil after dropping off the kids at school.

And now you do not even have to go to the ATM to spend your money...

It’s not the government’s responsibility to stop degenerates from ruining their lives.

It's not the government's responsibility to throw tens of thousands at them because they make poor choices, but they do.

Never said it was. I feel the same about the lottery but am ambivalent to its existence. A fool and their money were lucky enough to find each other in the first place.

BUT in the case of places like the Treasure Chest that bus in seniors it is a bit sleazy.

There is not a more depressing site than a casino and casino ‘regulars’.

Casinos have never been our thing. I think I can count on one hand the times my wife and I have been to a casino in the 27 years we’ve been married.

But I do remember the first time we went to one. It was Sam’s Town in Mississippi. This was in about 1997-98. We went with her cousins and aunt for the weekend. Got there Friday afternoon and stayed until Sunday. We spent some time in the casino, not much. We spent the rest of the time going to dinner, shows, and even went back to the room to watch the Egg Bowl. It wasn’t until we left that my wife told me she’d noticed her aunt had not once left the casino floor the entire weekend. She verified with her cousins that their mom had not once came up to their room the entire weekend. This woman spent over 48 hours straight playing the nickel slots! Until then I thought the idea of people being addicted to gambling was bullshite. That weekend changed my mind though.

I used to gamble in my first couple of years in college. But it was always a business to me.

There were several LSU guys that were at the old BOBR that used to take their tuition money, gamble it, lose it naturally, then come back to try and regain their losses. Time after time after time.

"Wishin' for Tuition" is what one guy called it. Super nice guy but obviously not going places in life.

We are lucky...

First, the lottery then video poker then riverboat casinos then a land based casino then racinos then sports gambling. Each was going to save us. We must have the best schools and infrastructure in America.

As a side note I have zero issue with any of the above being legal. I just loathe lying pieces of crap that acted like it was going to be a windfall for anyone but politicians and their friends.

It's their money, let them do as they wish with it. If it's on hookers and blow, so be it. If they want to give it to casinos, let them. After all, it is their money.

One of my in-laws was in a care facility and taken on such outings before the family found out.. She suffers from dementia. Their are kickbacks involved in these outings and many of these folks are not in real control of their faculties.

When I worked at a casino somebody would try to sell me their food stamps a few times per week.

Fun fact: You are far more likely to get something in return if you put money into a vending machine instead of a slot machine.

This being part of your argument against gambling is ludicrous from the get-go.

First of all, if the nursing home seniors are dropping money in slot machines, then it's THEIR money to do as they please.

If they are old enough to be in a nursing home, then by that supposition, their KIDS should by then be grown adults and in control of their own lives and finances and not still depending on mom or dad to leave them money upon their deaths.

Yeah, pre-arrange the funeral, cremation costs, etc., but there is nothing that says a senior has a responsibility to leave their offspring an inheritance.

And dollars to donuts, old mom and pop are not being visited very regularly by those whom you think deserve to be paid off in the will.

You mean their money they worked and saved? Yea, heaven forbid they spend it on something they find enjoyable.
