What we really got was the state police with both hands in it. WTF redeeming quality do they have?

Frankly for many the cell phone in their hand creates the same issues as a slot machines do.

There are far too many greedy offspring in this world just waiting for their inheritance.

And I've noticed every response contrary to the OP's opinion has gotten at least one downvote.

Care to guess who's waiting for their parents to die for "Their Inheritance"???

My wife plays slots every week or so.

She's the highest level at Choctaw in Oklahoma and Caesars. It's actually pretty convenient. $175 free play every two weeks, a hostess that we get free rooms whenever we want them (great when people are in town) and free food, gifts, etc. Through Caesars we get free flights to Tahoe or Vegas, rooms and food. She got Adele tickets last year.

I just have to put her on a budget amount. She won 9k on Saturday and consistently hits big jackpots. I've never seen anything like it.

Yeah, the one idiot who constantly downvotes in this thread is a money grubbing maggot just waiting for his/her inheritence. Shameful P.O.S!

Just wait until they legalize the casino apps. Addicts will be able to blow through their SS or paychecks without even leaving the couch.

i kinda get this..i was zoning out w/ candy crush-like game on my phoen and when i got a new phone and lost all my saved bonuses (i had over 300 of each type) i never re-installed it and i have to say my interactions w/ my family improved dramatically.

now if chicken would just delete my TD account...

so yes, i totally get the addiction..i am just so cheap i wouldn't even spend a single $1 on 'add ons' so i got all the addiction i wanted from the free version of the game.

My wife and I take our elderly parents once a month to lose $100 bucks each…it’s what they like to do.
I play the same machine every time and max it out. Sometimes I lose in five minutes and sometimes 45 minutes .
But I’ve never won. Ever.

When casinos first became a thing in the N.O. area I ventured over to Boomtown one night to play some poker. There was a waiting list for a seat at the tables so I wandered over to the slot machines and dropped $20 in one and hit it for over $400.

I got me a comped drink and cashed out and went back to the poker tables and told the guy to take my name off the list since I had already got $400.

He just looked and me, smiled and said "Good move".

Never have understood the addiction to gambling. My brain automatically associates gambling with burning money. Then I think of the things I've withheld from myself that I could just go out and buy without guilt for the cost of gambling away money.

That said, slot players are some sad arse people. The last time I sat and actually watched people, there was a destitute looking dude gambling away his work check on a slot machine he didn't even seem to understand how to play.

The saddest thing I ever saw was in a local bar in St. Bernard Parish. They had an older guy who'd come in daily and have himself a couple cold beers, maybe drop a few dollars in the video poker machine and head home.

Well, the old guy dies and his wife started coming in, something she had never done before. Come to find out the old man had a little life insurance policy that left her $10K.

She would get one drink and go to the poker machines and drop a couple hundred dollars at a time in them. There were times she hit a decent hand and rack up some money, but she'd just keep playing until it was all gone. This went on for a couple months on an almost daily basis and she pissed all that money away.

Shame too because they were not well off people and I'm sure that $10K could have helped her instead of pissing it away like she did.

Well, it's all rigged- legally, of course.

HOWEVER.....the person walking into the casino ultimately controls what they want to spend.
Not everyone is a gambling addict. It's not hard to go to one and have a good time without leaving wearing a pickle barrel.

Well you have to know what you are up against. As far as the best odds, the $5 denom and higher is the best risk / reward as they are all in the low to high 90+% payback range (the higher the denom, the higher the payback percentage over the life of the machine). Casinos cannot change this as they are programmed in the manufacturing process. Best friend for over 30 years has been a slot tech for most of the companies out there.

I worked on them for 24 years. The percentages can be changed at the casino. But you have to go through the state gaming commission and if tribal, you have to go through the tribal gaming commission also.

When the casino needed extra revenue, we had a list of games to lower the percentages on. A tribal gaming commission member and security was always present when we did this. Sometimes LSP would join them but not always

Sad isn't the word, maybe pathetic. Gambling is like a tax for being poor at math. Anytime I hear a liberal espouse the virtues of their cause I ask "explain gov't backed gambling". The slippery slope was greased by oily Democrats (EWE and his slimy ilk) to rake in more money to buy the votes of the poor. It is a lot easier to fool people, than it is to convince them they have been fooled.

The gov't should be doing everything possible to enrich and improve the lives of citizens, not exploit their weaknesses and rob them. Every slot machine, every lottery ticket, every roll of the dice is a result of morally bankrupt politicians.

And the suckers line up to throw their money away. What baffles me is when a casino closes, how inept you must be if you can't run a business that takes in money from the suckers and gives them nothing in return.

I know a few slot players - they always broadcast the big wins but never the losses.

My comment could have been phrased better without the inheritance part. I could care less about an inheritance because my parents are already passed.

Many of these elderly folks do not have their full faculties and their savings are often keeping them in a nicer facility, There are kickbacks involved to get these folks on the bus to the casino,

I do put some blame on their families. These folks get lonely and many folks think it is too much of a bother to visit their elders after they warehouse them in the nursing homes Many go just to get out and see people,.
