2 adults, one 8yo.

Airbnb in Garden distract, a block off the street car.

I haven't been in about 10 years.

On the list-

Bug museum

Halloween parade thingy

Reservations in front row for an afternoon Preservation Hall performance

St. Louis cemetery tour

Need to add/need advice-

-Walking ghost tour, or if you do the horsedrawn carriage tours like Charleston and Savannah do, even better

-Swamp tour where you ride on a big boat and throw marshmallows at alligators.

Yes I bought a club for my car.
Yes we have life insurance.

Any guidance or suggestions?

If TulaneLSU is reading this, what's the best pizza joint? My kid considers himself a pizza connoisseur so I'd like to see what he thinks about your favorite pizza place.

Friend,

I am sitting in the IMAX watching the the Taylor Swift Eras concert movie right now so this will have to be relatively swift. The aisles are filled with teenagers singing, crying, and waving light saber like wands that are flashing. It is a spectacle. Swift is currently singing her acoustic section and is now on piano singing something about summer went away and playing it cool. The crowd seems relatively tranquil in response to this one. I will try to write a full review and perhaps share a top ten list of best outfits during the concert. Watch for it in the Arts Board, which some call the Movie Board.

As for pizza, I firmly believe that the best pizza in town is Tower of Pizza on the border of Old Metairie on Veterans. The artichoke salad there is as good as any salad in town and the pizza is solid and reliable. New Orleans does not have any very good or great pizzas, none that score above 7.5. Zee’s is probably my second favorite now. Pizza Delicious had made several national best pizza lists, undeservedly so, and I put its quality on par with Sbarro’s at Lakeside.

Pizza is not recommended when visiting New Orleans. Instead, perhaps you could join Mother and me for a five course meal at Impastato’s .

October Fest will be alive and well at the Deutches Haus across from City Park, the best public park in America. I strongly recommend chicken dancing there while you are here.

A day spent in and out of the museums and galleries on Royal can never equaled outside New Orleans. I must get back to the movie now. A lady just grabbed me and wants to dance. It would be rude to push her away.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

P.S. My heart is still pounding and I am drenched with sweat from the workout I just did dancing, but I have finished the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Movie review.

Can verify the company is still there. I had to go down to Jean Lafitte last week and saw the place open for business.

They do have these tours. I do not know the names of the companies but I’m sure you can Google something and find them.

As for pizza, not exactly a New Orleans specialty. Zee’s Pizzeria? Pizza Dominica? Pizza Delicious?

Friend,

The pizza served at Pizza Delicious is perhaps the best pizza in New Orleans, and many agree. This can be bolstered with the fact that when arriving to the establishment one is met with a line of humanity waiting outside the door.
Tower of Pizza is not located in the city of New Orleans and should not be considered.

Many years ago we did a swamp tour with Cajun Encounters out on Honey Island Swamp near the LA/MS line.

At one time they used to have shuttle buses that would take you to/from the location and NOLA.

With the US 90 bridge closure I don't know if they are still managing to keep their tours going or not.

Pizza Delicious may be great. I don’t know.
But Golden Corral also has a line of humanity so not the best way to bolster a review.

For Pizza - zee’s would be my bet and it’s convenient to the garden district.

8 is pushing up against the upper age limit, but carousel gardens in city park is a small amusement park and is great for kids. City park is the prettiest space in the city and enjoyable for parents as well. Has a small coaster, a few spin rides, a train through the park, and there is a cafe du monde for beignets. An 8 year old may or may not enjoy/tolerate the sculpture garden which is terrific. In any event, a half day in city park is worth it.

I tell everyone who comes with kids to ride the ferry across the river and go have breakfast/brunch at tout de Suite cafe. An 8 year old will love the ferry, it provides the best view of the city and cathedral, and the restaurant and walk are great. The ferry terminal is right in front of the acquarium/insectarium so this is a natural combination - ferry and breakfast followed by bugs.

Music Box Village is off your beaten path, but absolutely great for an 8 year old boy. It’s functionally a series of tree houses built with acoustic materials. Your boy will get a pair of drum sticks and can just bang and climb away. If your trek out here, parloux beer lap is nearby and has good beer and large outdoor seating are with some things for kids. They have a little octoberfest offering and food. Urban south and zony mash are other breweries that tend to be very kid friendly and often feature live music.

God bless you for taking the boy to preservation hall - it is a wonderful experience.

Have a great trip.

That seems to be the only way to get to Jean Lafitte, that's a bummer.

Did bug museum and few weeks ago and it was top notch. Be sure when you get to the area where beehive is located you go speak with the docent/employee sitting where all the butterfly chrysalis are hanging. Your kids will have a ball and so will you - my favorite was the giant katydid and the butterfly garden.

All of this is great, especially this time of the year. OP, you can also do swan paddle boats and rent the family bikes while out there.

The mule pulled carriage rides really are a pretty nice little way to see the quarter area as noted.

Consider doing VUE New Orleans at the Four Seasons Hotel.

Every NOLA tourist I have spoken with had a great time at the swamp tour. You can get there despite bridge closure. Call them for the best route.

Definitely go to Octoberfest at Deutsches Haus but go during the daylight. Kid will have a great time with Chicken Dance. Still fun at night but becomes more of a drinking festival with rowdier music. There will be other festivals this weekend as well.

Your other planned excursions look solid.

I believe he is speaking about the US 90 Bridge that crosses over the Pearl River at the LA/MS line. You should have no issues going to Jean Lafitte.

There is a ghost tour in the garden district but it’s a walking tour.

There’s a tour of Lafayette cemetery across from commanders in the garden district which is good.

If your Airbnb is the one I think, there’s some good walking tours in the area to check out of mansions, ghost, celebrities etc
