Suggestions about World War 2 Museum

For Fathers Day, I’m going to go to the WW2 museum in New Orleans for the first time and my four sons are coming also. My youngest son is 14, so they’re not kids.
But I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions about how to experience it. Should we do self-guided?
should we get our own tour guide?
What’s the ideal way to experience the museum?
Any suggestions would be appreciated

If you see any Japanese or German people, don’t mention the outcome.

Ive only done it self guided but if they still have the theater deal where you watch the timeline of the war play out. Pay the extra to watch that. Very cool. Beyond All Boundaries

There is too much to see in one day.
I would suggest self guided and choosing the portions appealing to you most, such as a specific theater (Europe or Asia / Pacific) or different types of war (island hopping, tanks, submarines, etc)

The movie is well worth it. I spent the day. Didn't fully complete it.

Definitely see the movie,”Beyond All Boundaries”, European and Pacific sectors, and at least pass through D-Day sector. I’m fascinated with D-Day so I particularly enjoyed that one. That’s a jammed filled day right there. It’s so much to see and read, it would probably take three days to do it right.

self guided, pay for the movie: eat before you go, because you are going to want to be there a while

Do not skip on the air museum building. Well worth the time to cross the street.

I was there two months ago for a conference next to WW 2 museum. Walked from Tulane to there and back all three days. Never felt unsafe in daylight. Too much pot being smoked to get the natives aggressive.

The air museum is the best part imo
Literally never seen anything like it

As previously stated, it takes more than a day to do it all. I did a self-guided tour of the original building a few years back and it was a full day. Looking forward to returning to see the airplane building. Enjoy!

What kind of stuff do they have in there?

Beyond All Boundaries is the highlight. When it first came out I saw WWII veterans that had to leave because they were overwhelmed. Very good.
The submarine experience is.... maybe interesting for the kids.
Takes two full days to really go through it all. It is better than a lot of the museums in the Smithsonian.

Like most museums, it's a bore. So yes, self guide.
