Goes absolutely HAM on SEC Offfenses
LINK
quote:

“First, it becomes it won’t work,” Leach said. “Second, they basically say oh it’s a system, suggesting that people who don’t do it that way, who just run it up the middle, stick all your asses together so one hand grenade can kill everybody, that’s the right way to do it. Since they do it the right way, they’re OK with the fact they lost.

“This is a great time to be in the SEC, everybody’s got the same offense: run right, run left, play action. And they tease themselves and say we threw it four more times a game this year than we did last year.”

Anybody want to go HAM on Big 12 and Pac-12 defenses? It shouldn't be that hard.

Louisville's offense was pretty damn impressive all year...then they played LSU.

Been that way as long as I can remember.

Never understood the conservatism on the field. Best athlete play QB, high school offenses philosophy... (actually, that's an insult to high school offenses that are pretty sophisticated now.)

maybe a few years ago this was true, but there's been an influx of spread guys in recent years. QB play has just been shite.

I don't know if I would put the Pac-12 in the same category.

Pac-12 defense may have been bad, but the Big 12 in general was something special on defense this year

The shitty QB play has made it more true with more conservative playcalling. Now if QB play wasn't so abysmal, I believe it would be different.

I think the amount of athletes on the defensive side of the ball in the SEC is a factor some kind of ignore when talking about the offenses though

who cares?

It's not like what he's saying is prolific. You could just as easily say he made a name for himself at TT where they threw it 50 times per game and never heard of a defense.

Run whatever system you want! I think those old curmudgeony stuck in the mud offenses in the SEC did perfectly fine the last few decades on a national scale.

I don't think it really matters what kind of offense you run if you're well-coached and can wear your opponent down.

What has he won that would make anyone in the SEC take him seriously?

Eh, I also think that's overblown a little too though. Even if we disagree a bit on that, we can still agree that QB play in the SEC particularly has been absolutely awful.

I'm just glad Mike Leach keeps us entertained.

Never change Mike. Never change.

The point I took from this is that the QB play has been so abysmal that coaches have become even more conservative on playcalling in an attempt to compensate. This has led to a lot of safe playcalling I.e. run the ball and try a play action here and there.

That may not have been his exact point, but it's the point I thought of.
