So many great points in this thread.

LOYALTY: there is none. Players, coaches, but college admin too. They won’t hang with a coach through a true rebuilding period.

MONEY: it’s ruined everything. The risk is too great for a player competing in these games. The whole experience is corporate. Conference expansion has a hand in this as well.

MINOR LEAGUE: that’s exactly what this is. People say it was always like that. Technically, no. Go back MANY years ago, and some players would have opted to get a real job that paid real money. The massive salaries have created the obsession with getting to the NFL. It’s different in baseball, because kids have to pay their dues (usually) in the minors. That signing bonus only lasts so long.

*These kids are pampered from their earliest days. It’s no different than AAU basketball. I can’t blame kids for opting out and only thinking about money. I can’t blame parents from poor areas wanting the payday.

The bottom line:

We all know what the issues are, but I don’t think there’s anything done to fix it. As long as the money flows, colleges won’t overhaul the system.

Excellent points

Yep and it’s only a matter of time before this includes fans as well. Different sport, but ALCentral stadiums have more empty seats than fans these days. People think this can’t happen with Cfb. I disagree.

This isn’t talked about enough. A lot of traditions were destroyed by realignment and are gone forever.

A real de jure minor league is the only way to preserve any integrity in cfb but it will never happen because there’s no incentive. The problem is that the feedback loop is too long. By the time the product changes to the point where fans start tuning out it will be too late. Cfb needed an impartial commissioner like 10 years ago to pump the breaks on the realignment and tv/espn deals. It’s the Wild West now and we’re not going back.

I don’t blame the players at all for wanting to go out and get theirs, but some of this stuff is over the top. A couple years ago Dave Rimington was brought in as Nebby’s interim AD. In the press conference, he noted the changes in the facilities. He said something like the weight room was like a Four Seasons hotel. You could detect a hint of disgust in his voice. I don’t blame him. You don’t need millions of $$ to get muscle gains, you need a barbell and plates. Just thought it was an interesting anecdote.

That shite is only to impress and woo 17 year old kids.

Read an article on portal players and they specifically said they didn't care about that shite. They were moving to get better, not for the amenities.

Remington is an old school guy. Like Clubber Lang training in a hellhole gives the edge kind of guy. He's not wrong.

When you're up against some seriously loaded programs what is your edge when it gets gut check time?

My advice to a recruit

Starting in high school play for like maybe your freshman year. Then opt out for the next three so you can train for combines and put up some sick testing numbers.

Get recruited and have big national signing day event to pick school. Put on one schools hat but then throw it away and put on hat of the real school you choose. Classic move

Sign NIL deal with some made up company the school uses to pay you.

DONT play any games just keep working out and training.

Hit transfer portal and get recruited alllllll over again. Make sweet New commitment video for Twitter.

Second year finally actually play some football I guess

Third year opt out to start training for combine.

Get drafted. Make millions

Um...look in the freaking mirror guys. ESPN is the one who made these bowl games seem meaningless with their push for a playoff and then that stupid "Who's In?" marketing campaign.

Amen

They are a part of ruining football and then they go on full blast? Frick them.
