Exactly. There was nothing remotely funny about it other than the makeup.

That’s how absurdist humor works

The actress' break in this one kinda wrecked a really funny skit though.

Yeah... it's almost like they didn't let her see what they would look like to get that reaction (I'm not sure I'd be able to hold it in either if that was my very first time seeing them).

When it's a "shock value" kind of moment like that, you have to prep the actors so that they can stay in character (unless the shock helps the story, like an actor looking horrified at some gruesome scene).

She said that in dress rehearsal they had most of the prosthetics on, and she lost her shite then. Mikey Day said he tried to hide from her on the live show so that she didn't start the sketch laughing. Then she turned around and saw the full prosthetics and makeup and lost it.

This skit was ruined by the female cast member breaking character. It could have been an all time great but it falls flat due to her lack of professionalism.

Horrible take. She did not ruin the skit at all, and I don't blame for laughing like she when she turned and saw butt-head because it was funny, but this skit was absolutely nowhere near an all time great.

While it was not a bad skit at all, the only thing funny about it was the costume design & the actors breaking, but again that was only for costume and not due to any lines in the skit itself.

That's where I am as well. The makeup obviously makes the skit, and that's not a bad thing. But it's not top-tier level or even close. I generally don't like when the cast breaks during a skit, but I get why they do and it doesn't ruin skits for me unless it's someone like Fallon or Horatio Sanz who literally do it in every single one basically. Hell, one of my all-time favorites is the Disney DD one ( greatness ), and just about everyone breaks in that one.

This B&B one reminds me of how much I hate Kenan Thompson though, and it is astonishing to me how so many people like him or think he's any good at all.

Agreed. Dude has been part of SNL longer than Lorne Michaels! You would think he would move on but I guess there's nothing for him to go to.

Yeah, I caught that in this thread after I had posted it. I think, in this scenario, it would have been funnier if she had managed to keep it deadpan the entire time.

I will say the Beavis and Butthead looks were better than the King of the Hill looks.

Kenan Thompson isn't that great, but I do love the "What's Up with That?" skit.

She’s good, but Chloe Fineman is fine, man.

Exactly. The joke was that the guest speaker was the only person in the room who thought they looked like Beavis and Butthead despite the fact that they obviously did but the interviewer ruined that with her laughs.

And yet this is mostly what's getting the press, views, clicks etc. This thread is shocking to me.

Last week’s episode was actually funny. It’s hard to imagine the show ever getting back to the glory years of the 90s and before so the bar is lower.

But hey, everything culturally is worse now.

After finally watching this skit, I’m going to agree with you. Breaking character isn’t completely out of the norm for funny SNL skits. Even Cowbell had plenty of it. But this was ridiculous. Both Gosling and the host chick made what should have been a hilarious skit almost unwatchable in moments.

someone who was at dress rehearsal said it was the same makeup and she broke just as much if not more during dress rehearsal.
