How many times has a director re-made his own movie with a bigger budget?

The most famous example of this is Evil Dead 2, the "sequel" to Evil Dead.

The inspiration for this thread was looking at newer horror movies and I stumbled across Malum:

Looking at the summary, it seemed familiar:

quote:

A rookie police officer takes the last shift at a newly decommissioned station in an attempt to uncover the mysterious connection between her father's death and a vicious cult.

I was like, that sounds like a LOT like the older movie, the Last Shift

Literally a remake by the exact same director 9 years later, with a bigger budget.

Luc Besson with La Femme Nikita 1990 and Anna 2019. Essentially the same film with different elements and setting.

That's funny because Point of No Return is literally the American LFN

I had SUCH a crush on Bridget Fonda, back in the day. Sexiest actress of her age group back in the 1990s.

Every time I think of her now, it makes me sad.

Not directly but I feel like Snatch is a elevated cast/budget version of lock stock and 2 smoking barrels for guy Ritchie

This was my first thought. He made the first one for like 50k or something.

Alfred Hitchcock w/The Man Who Knew Too Much in 1934 and 1956.

The original is kind of like a really good rough draft.

I watched Malum a little while ago and thought it seemed familiar.
