They will feel it because they’ve become dependent on it. I’m not naive enough to not understand that there are situations where government aid is a good thing.

Shutdown for how long? Democrats can always count on gutless Republicans to knuckle under. When your party has been led by the likes of Trent Lott, Turkey Neck and Newt Gingrich over the years, stalwart action isn't remotely feasible.
