I’m 55 and went for my annual check up in May, my prostate levels were high. My doctor sent me to a urologist and he did a biopsy two weeks ago.Today I got my results. I feel fine and it’s early stages but anytime you here the C word it will hit you. My wife was with me , telling my kids and siblings was tough also. I have two choices surgery or radiation, If any of y’all had this let me know your opinions. TIA

The correct treatment depends completely on the pathology

In some cases can just follow it with PSA or MRI

I would always prefer radiation over surgery if those are the options they give you

Which one works better to get rid of cancer and make it not come back and kill you? That's what I would do.

Higher rate of impotence and urinary incontinence with surgery

They will probably craft a plan with Radiation, Surgery and Chemo.

I would do brachytherapy if it were me. Less chance of incontinence and/or erectile dysfunction.

Go with surgery if possible. 5 years postop here and doing well. Radiation is an option if there are issues of recurrence but it is more difficult to do surgery following radiation according to the urologists I’ve seen.

Went through it in 2020. PSA went from 3.8-5.7. Seven of my 12 Prostate lobs were cancerous. Don't frick around with it, have it removed. I was 61 at the time, no chemo and no radiation needed. Had my PSA checked last week it was 0.

Get it out!

I'll be happy to answer any other questions.

Get the surgery. Get rid of that shite now and don’t look back. Go to every single follow up appointment to make sure it’s all gone.

Prayers for you and your family. You’ll get through this.

That sucks, hopefully you beat this and make a full recovery. Haven't had cancer but I'm going to go out on a limb and say the choice depends on your individual cancer/situation and you should talk to your doctor and probably multiple doctors and don't choose what the OT tells you.

I’d listen to the recommendation of my urologist. If my urologist couldnt make one, I’d find a new urologist

Crazy that the answers for this condition are all over the place.

How about we focus on prostate cancer like breast cancer for a few years

My gf was diagnosed with breast cancer two weeks before I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. She opted for a double mastectomy and is now cancer free.

Don't frick with cancer.
