Aside from markings and casting, I think the fuse is different. Other than that, I got nothing.

You stepped all over it.

After the Oriskany and Forrestal incidents, the navy started studying ways to reduce the threat of ordinance cooking off. The first bomb with the alligator skin is the result. That coating greatly increased the amount of time the bomb took to detonate if exposed to fire.

The two yellow bands and rough skin means it is termally protected - and thus meant for shipboard service. A Navy bomb.

Standard 'land' dumb bombs had (have?) single band and smooth skin.

Major Greg Pappy Boyington USMC. Though Boyington did fly with the AVG Flying Tigers before the Corps.

That's one of the Horten brother's (German) flying wings but I don't remember what they called it.

Seeing as that you seem to be a fellow airplane freak, what is this and what makes it unique?

It is the Curtiss Sparrowhawk and what he said, except it wasn't modified to hook to the blimp. It was built expressly for that purpose. Both the Macon and Akron carried them.

That's not a 229. There was only one Go-229 (Gotha was going to mass produce them) built and it never flew. That's one of the late prototypes after they went from props to jet power. He numbered them in sequence I, II, III, IV, V, etc but I don't know them well enough to say which one that is (other than it is a very late one).
