I was told that getting a college degree would get me a fulfilling job that would pay well and working a trade would get me nowhere in life. Wasted 6 years of my life in college getting a business degree I don't use, had a job out of college I hated. Now I work a trade and make money and am happy with my job. Not everyone is cut out for the office and we should stop lying to kids about this.

Our 14 year old has said she wants to be a marine biologist for years. I think she thinks they play with dolphins all day

I know a young woman who is a marine biologist who just spent some time documenting the reefs off Belize. Her next stop is working with dolphins. Don't think pay influenced her as her parents are well off.

I also know one who is a genetic scientist studying the effects of chemical conditions on DNA switches, and a three who are well on their way to being a veterinarian, an aeronautical engineer and a neurosurgeon respectively. All seem very happy with their choices and knew what they wanted to be when they were very young. Some brilliantly intelligent people enjoy their work. They were all child/teen fashion models who some people thought were dumb because they were pretty.

Garbage man. Hey. It looked fun as a kid riding on the back of those trucks.

Glad I wasn’t the only kid that thought being a garbage man would be badass.

When I was really young, I thought having a auto junkyard would be cool.

Didn’t ever go to one or know anyone who had one, just the concept of having a bunch of old wrecked cars and being able to cobble together a working vehicle from all of the busted-up ones.

By the time I was 8 or so, I realized it probably wasn’t the best career path for me.

Huh, women in corporate positions are told not to have kids? Absolutely bullshite. Every executive or Director level woman I’ve ever known has had kids.

The total fertility rate has cratered because women have been told to chase careers, and postpone having children.

These careers don’t make men happy, and they make women miserable. It’s there in the polling, happiness continues to decline, decade over decade.

One sad manifestation of this?

The way modern women treat dogs like the children they don’t have.

Early in January, Pope Francis said choosing pets over kids is selfish.

Just reporting this, I’m not the Papal Spokesperson.

This is why it’s sad that women are being duped into having no kids and chasing careers looking for fulfillment.

I know a young woman who got advanced degrees in marine biology. For a time, early in her career, she did work with dolphins and even rode the killer whales at Sea World.

In addition to her degrees, her qualifications included being a beautiful 6' tall blonde who looked amazing in a wetsuit.

I wanted to design rollercoasters, but then I shadowed a ride designer for a career day and it was boring as hell.
