Regardless, bombers aren’t encroaching (by definition) our airspace.

So the message to our adversaries is, if you build your spy balloon big enough, you’re good, we’ll leave it alone.

just wait until you learn about all of the soviet bombers that encroached on our air space in alaksa that we didnt shoot down
You talking about all those times the USA would scramble fighters to respond to encroaching aircraft and force them to turn back or face retaliation?

Scruffy distinctly remembers learning about how the USA would simply let the Soviets fly through US airspace.

yes?

if anything does that not make the point here? russian bombers are a national secuirty threat, we immediately respond and send them on their way

this thing wasnt and was so high up that we couldnt just send a plane up there and deal with it

Not the point you are trying to make, no.

The point is that, in the past, there was an IMMEDIATE response when an encroachment by a foreign power occurred.

Apparently, that is no longer the case.

Hell, some people seem to even hold the view that as long as it is “low tech” what is there to worry about?

“They have more powerful satellites already. Why even care about this?”

We absolutely had the capability to shoot this thing down safely the minute it was noticed.

As someone else posted, if we can’t calculate out a possible impact area, we are lost already.

The US military shot down an orbiting satellite in 2008, yet this was too daunting of a task.

No I’m literally not. I don’t think this was a spy balloon. I think this was a calculated release to test the responses of foreign governments

Covid, this balloon etc. are just psychological stress tests being run on the peasantry. Those at the top of the financial food chain now own governments around the world down to a local level( Soros DA’s). Everything they do is intentionally calculated.

probably wanted to let it do what it was supposed to do and then shoot it down to see what they could recover to analyze?

You stated that it was difficult and we couldn’t just fly a plane up to it.

“this thing wasnt and was so high up that we couldnt just send a plane up there and deal with it”

Again, you don’t even have to use super secret sci-fi tech.

We were shooting objects out of Earth’s orbit, heights of 200+ kilometers, over a decade ago.
