As a hunter, do things ever bother you on some hunting shows?

The other day I saw this goofy chick going bow hunting for a mountain lion in CO. The dogs tree one and she gets there and he is in the top of a tree. She puts an arrow into his ribs and he starts screaming. They're all celebrating and high fiving, "Great shot! Shoot him again!" She puts another arrow into him and finally the cat falls out of the tree. I'm a big hunter, but this kind of bothered me. I think you should have a little respect for the animals you shoot.

My problem is that footage like that makes a new crop of anti-hunters each and every time. The hunting and outdoors community needs to monitor their image a bit better.

I hate it when they run up to a dead deer and start taunting it. Wtf, trash talking a dead deer? I was watching something the other day and this dude kills a mule deer and he's running around, selling it to the camera, then runs up to the deer and repeatedly yells, "We got you!" It was closer to a World Series celebration than an I just killed a deer celebration.

I can understand being excited about killing one that you've been hunting for a while, but damn, have a little respect for the sport and be thankful you have the opportunity to hunt.

I've gotten to the point where I don't watch hunting shows. They just piss me off...nothing like real life.

All of them? Seriously, what you described happens in 90% of them. I hate it. Uncle Ted may be the worst, with all the false "honoring" of the animal he just wacked.

My biggest issue is watching "hunters" shoot near/around feeders like it is a big deal. Hell, what animal ain't easy to kill if you offer it a meal?

Yea all the walk ups after the kill are staged.

But I feel you on that mountain lion. Why was that fun? Same with bear hunting. They just lumber up under the tree, not a care in the world, and get smoked. I know they are dangerous and all that, but I don't see the sport in it.

In all honesty I think Uncle Ted is sincerely passionate about what he kills. "The beast is dead, long live the beast"

Isn't this how you hunt most things with dogs?

I don't get the hate.

Stan Potts is more entertaining than half of the shows on TV FWIW.
I swear that SOB is clinically insane!

They are more excited about killing the animal as a "trophy." It really pisses me off when they say they are going to donate the meat to a local food bank.

I know, that cat was just stuck in the top of a dead tree with nowhere to go and she started sticking arrows in it.

I can appreciate the fact that she should try to get a clean kill. But hunting with dogs that tree or put a critter at bay or similar is one of the oldest forms of hunting.

I saw the exact same video and had the same feelings, thats not hunting, thats just shooting

At least when you hunt deer and rabbits w/ dogs you have to take a running shot

Watched Uncle Ted put an arrow in a bear who had halve of his body inside of a dumped over trash can of food. Now that's what I call sporting, kinda like most deer hunters. Boom. Feeding animals you kill should be illegal unless its an agricultural setting. How many deer hunters wouldn't hunt if they had to actual stalk for their kill.

Rare is it that a hunting show will actually teach you something. Nowadays, they'll just show people on guided massacres.
I also agree that they are hurting the overall image of a sportsman with all of the needless gloating and kill-just-to-kill attitude

Ones I have seen appear to be nothing but infomercials.

This is true, and its unfortunate. It would be nice to have a show that does more than show you gear reviews and a "set up" kill.

I don't understand this type of hunting either. Its one thing to hunt deer or elk so much, that you get to a level where you are looking for a special trophy. Its another to take an inexperienced and unskilled person, thrust them into a situation with an easy kill for a "trophy" that they really can't appreciate.

I'm pretty selective on the ones i watch. I do not watch any predator hunt. I tend to keep it to Primos, Waddell and Bill Jordan. It's rare to see anything that bothers me on those.

Speaking of, T-bone made a fantastic shot on a nice buck last night. The deer stopped in view. Blood poured out like it was coming out of a bucket on the far side.
