American police do the same when it comes to counter-protesting, especially if their numbers are small.

London, last I noticed, has a progressive Muslim mayor whose policies are leaning more & more anti Israel. Point being, he had enough support from the city's Muslim community to win the election.

I don’t know? I don’t think he was being threatened with arrest simply because he was a Jew, but more about putting himself in a precarious situation where he was warned to avoid.
Let’s say there was an earthquake and a building was unstable. Let’s say the police were telling you to stay away, but you were insistent on entering.
Would the police be justified in arresting you if you ignored the warning?

Not saying it was the right call, but it was the right call for the officers. They'd have ended up in a lot more trouble/hurt if the group had attacked that dude and they tried to protect him.
In hindsight, they may now be wishing they'd gone for chips and let that dude FAFO.
