I like how people are bashing you for bringing in ideas (regardless if they are prison like) yet they are providing no solution.
ETA: It's similar to the echo chamber of " 'Something' must be done!" Well sure, that's an easy way of saying you have no solution.

In reality you probably need more than one unless the guy is never going to take breaks.
My work has 2000 people that work here. There are two entrances each through a gate guard shack. They have everyone scan their badge and open their bag and show them as they walk through. It is staggered as people come in between 5:30 and 8. But there is only one guard at each guard shack.
That's why I said it would help during down times, but would be hard to do when kids are coming and leaving in mass.
The guards don't take breaks to my knowledge. They are in a air conditioned and heated shack with a bathroom and mini fridge.

This is also part of the pushback you’re receiving. Not feasible for a lot of schools (depending on layout/size) and definitely contributes to the “prison atmosphere.”
I guess, my school already had basically this some areas.
Third and second was a hallway with doors you had to go through. Same with 5th and sixth. Kindergarten and 1st.
All their own wing with doors to them.
They just werent metal doors that could be closed and locked if needed.

Tell me how much it should have cost then. Maybe we did get ripped off….
My buddy replied. He says for a place like Walmart with 32 cameras. Around 40k, but they use some expensive cameras that use image recognition at checkouts to detect theft.
So, like I said 300k... you were getting ripped off bigtime.

how to secure schools:
1. keep you kids at home and provide your own security.
2. no need for a number 2.

Walmart and the like have some of the better systems with most of the bells and whistles. Unless you start talking casinos.

A good start would be developing minimum security building standards for schools and require all new construction to meet those minimum standards.
There are tons of school districts building new schools and campuses every year.
Eventually older buildings get phased out and decreases overall federal/state cost to assist poorer districts.

If you can have off-duty cops working bank branches, sky marshalls on planes, you can increase SROs who conceal carry and have a squad car out front. Hell, my kid's middle school has a reserved parking spot right out front. There should be more than 1 per school.
And for fricks sake, lock the damn doors.
