After more than three years of Joe Biden as your president, how are you doing? For many people, the answer is "hungry." From The Daily Mail:
According to a Gallup analysis this month, the U.S. has the highest rate of people who are under stress to afford enough food for themselves and their families compared to other G7 countries, which includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom.
One in four Americans, according to the analysis, say there has been at least once [sic] instance in the last 12 months when they didn't have enough money to purchase food needed.
This adds to publicly available data about the struggle to afford food. In October 2023, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that 12.8% of Americans said they struggled to afford food in 2022, which was a 2.6% increase from 2021.
We might not fully understand the continuing damage in 2023 and 2024 until several years from now.
Information from the U.S. Department of Agriculture released October 2023 reveals that there were 17 million households who had trouble putting food on the table in 2022.

Americans could use less food.

Ok well this is a Gallup Poll. Do you have alternative data?

Serious question: I know there are a few posters who handle food supply like grain etc. Have your middlemen like the Cargill and ADMs of the world been paying you appreciably more in the last 3 years? Asking out of ignorance.

Get rid of EBT cards and hand out beans and rice. We could drown every American in a room full of beans and rice for what we waste with EBT cards.

You misspelled unskilled immigrants.

I don't care. This country could use a diet.

I feel like an America with the same amount of food and fewer unskilled immigrants would be very decisively a better place for Americans than an America with less food and all the unskilled immigrants that can walk across the border.

Maybe not enough to purchase what they wanted but there is no way that 25% of Americans have had enough money to purchase needed food, even once.

No shite. I grew up going with my old man to pick up commodities every 2 weeks or every month. Taught me valuable lessons. I was damned sure never going to have to deal with that shite when I grew up.

Try making 15 bucks and hour and paying for rent, utilities, gas and see how much you have left over for food.
I don't get this board. One minute your lambasting Biden for inflation. Then you do a 180 and mock those most hurt by it.
The latest estimate is Biden has cost the avg family about $1200 @ month in excess expenses.
You may make enough where $1200 is no big deal. More power to you if you can just shrug that
off. But I assure you, it hurts a lot of people.

If you work for 15 an hour you need skills or a new job

What you don't get is populism (and yes, this board is dominated by populists).
Populism doesn't take a principle and apply it across another context like you just suggested. If populists identify with someone, then that person is downtrodden by The Man just like they are and part of the tribe. If they don't, then frick 'em, even if what you're talking about is something that the populist will turn around and complain about affecting themselves.
That's why populism is so destructive. It's fricking mindless.
But here's the thing...have I got you confused with another poster, or aren't you firmly in the populist camp yourself?
Big Trump supporter? All about Tucker Carlson? 'Merca First," "the Deep State is out to get everyone," "If Trump doesn't win in a landslide, it's because there was massive cheating," and all that nonsense?
Apologies if I have you mixed up with another poster.
If not, you better check your populist manual. A real populist would intuitively understand this dynamic that is confusing you without blinking.

The US dept of agriculture distributes food stamps and sends these polls to the recipients.
Its the same "survey" that talks about one out of one children go hungry in America every day.
They justify their jobs.

Who is most hurt by both parties are the working poor. Those who make just above the cutoff to receive benefits. It’s incentivizing people to give up, claim a disability, and live off the government because it’s more profitable than working a low-wage job. Therefore guaranteeing more people to vote in certain politicians. Don’t give up!

For some people, it will never be enough. I’ve seen people who weigh 400 lbs claim they can’t afford enough food.
