The United States vetoed a widely backed U.N. resolution on Thursday that would have paved the way for full United Nations membership for the state of Palestine.

The vote in the 15-member Security Council was 12 in favor, the United States opposed and two abstentions.

The resolution would have recommended that the 193-member General Assembly, where there are no vetoes, approve Palestine becoming the 194th member of the United Nations. Some 140 countries have already recognized the state of Palestine, so its admission would have been approved.

Even Taiwan is not a member of the UN and they want to make Palestine a member?

I'd suggest it's more complicated than just a blind squirrel type moment.

I'm not finding the state of Palestine on a map...

Google maps shows Israel.

Here's the "quick facts";
Palestine, officially known as the State of Palestine, is a country in the Levant region of West Asia. It is officially recognized as a state by the United Nations and numerous countries. Palestine shares borders with Israel to the west and north, Jordan to the east, and Egypt to the southwest.

Palestine isn't a country, no matter what they want to call it.

They have little true sovereignty, for starters.

I have noticed this administration tries to play both sides of the fence on most things having to do with foreign affairs

I am surprised that Biden would have this vetoed, but that said, there is no damn Palestine.

If Palestine were approved as a UN member, would they actually be held to any standards at all?

*crickets*

Thought so.

“Palestine” is as much an independent country as the Capital Hill Autonomous Zone in Seattle. Maybe they could both join the UN.
