Do any of you have increased creatinine levels from working out and not kidney disease?

How high? Looking at my last labs, I was at 1.28 mg/dL. Normal range is noted as 0.6-1.29, but my doctor didn't think it mattered enough to mention it.

Can't see it getting high enough to make much difference. Especially if you're young. How high are we talking?

That's still a GFR in the 70s. Should be fine. I imagine they have studies on this but I haven't really seen anyone ask this question.

Why are you getting blood work at 23? I’m older than you and I haven’t been to the doctor in like 20 years

My kidneys take an arse whipping from working out. My doctor said it’s normal and when I got sick as a dog with Covid and couldn’t go to the gym for months, it all returned to perfect.

You will undoubtedly get increased creatinine levels after exercise.

Good letter to the editor to briefly mention this effects of physical exercise in assessment of kidney function

You can use pubmed and things like this letter to start tracing references and such.

Old but pretty decent review article here.

If you tear it up, and break down a lot of muscle, it will go up. Not unusual to have some blood in the urine, as well. Had some triathlete type challenges when younger that would produce both…

Is high creatinine levels worrisome if it is due to Exercise?

My levels in 2019 were 1.45 and the range is .7-1.30. Dropped a supplement and it came in at 1.29 two months later.

1.12 last fall.

Has your lifting regimen decreased?

Probably a little.

I’m back on the same supplement again and will have another yearly physical next month.

Anxious to see where it lands.

It's high in everyone I asked that works out. Our company pays us to take a yearly blood test, so I was easily able to ask the guys who work out.

Creatine will cause false positives for kidney disease. Lots of videos on YouTube by doctors saying as much.

The Tampa Bay Bucs had an issue several years ago . Guys were taking creatine , who were linemen . With the dehydration from practicing in the sun , several of them developed urinary tract infections . Creatine use requires more hydration and they could not keep up in summer . They told them not to use it . UTI in a male requires a urology consult , unlike females .

A little story . A nurse told us that her hubbie , a sheriff’s office deputy and mma fighter had a creatinine of 3.0 on a lab test . Doc at work blew it off . She asked if that was cause for concern . We said “ hell yes ! “ So , he went to see a nephrologist . He was put on a low protein diet , no sweat box , drink bunches of water .
He was taking protein supplements , creatine and using a sweat box to get down to weight for mma . The doc told him that creatinine will bounce up and come back , untill it doesn’t . If you are in a stable state with an elevated creatinine , that STAYS elevated , you MAY have lost 50% of your kidney function . You would need a 24 hr urine to calculate creatinine clearance to tell . The NFL teams were lining up guys at half time and shooting them in the butt with toradol an NSAID , like super motrin . With dehydration , some guys got significant kidney damage and are suing , saying they were not informed about the potential for kidney effects of NSAIDS . Don’t play with renal function . Just sayin’ .

Ooh ! 1.4 that STAYS 1.4 … and doesn’t go down with hydration … I would get a creatinine clearance checked . Seriously .
Some cross fit folks are really cavalier about
rhabdomyolysis . Ho ho … uncle rhabdo . Well , uncle rhabdo is plugging up your kidney filtration system with muscle breakdown products . The kidney can only take so much … like any organ . Remember , You will need them for the rest of your life .
