About the same as competitive walking, so why not?

The Pickle Ball craze reminds me of the racquetball craze of the 1980s.
I knew a dude who was a pro racquetball player and ESPN aired the racquetball tour. Every tennis club installed racquetball courts.
Then, poof.
I like Pickle Ball, just as I enjoyed racquetball as a kid. Every fun activity doesn't need to be a competitive sport with a pro league and Olympic competition.

Racquetball uses a more complicated court that not as many people have access to
You can turn 2 tennis courts into 6-8 pickleball courts. And the pickleball courts will be full while the tennis courts are empty

I'm sure a "governing body" has already been established in Switzerland by some bond villain type out of thin air with no one even knowing it exists so they can reap the profits of all international play for decades to come.
It's probably called the IFPBA.
I'm not even joking. That's how FIBA and FIFA and FINA, etc were all formed.

I'd watch an Olympic pickleball match. I can think of less interesting summer Olympic sports to watch.

Pickle ball is like badminton … it was made for old people yet now people play it competitively and look ridiculous

In Tokyo, the winning male racewalked a 20k at a 6:31/mile pace.

Maybe the Senior Olympics.

Pickleball is significantly easier than racquetball

Pickle ball currently has a “the sound the ball makes is loud and annoying” crisis they need to work through.
They are shutting down courts here in the Denver metro because the sound of the balls violates the noise ordinance (>70db). The sound is also unpleasant on television.
I think it will be a solid niche sport like softball going forward, huge participation, some moderate television success but no threat to major sports.

I don’t find it that loud and I don’t think anyone watching a stream is complaining of the sound. That’s wild that they’re shutting courts down because of it.
Fun leisure sport. Been a great hobby to pick up. Everyone is too cool for it until they play and have a good time.

People living close to the courts complain, city workers come out with the decibel meter, if it’s greater than the city ordinance allows shutting down play in those locations is the only option (other than not enforcing the noise ordinance, which probably would end up having unintended consequences)
