I have had to do it three times with two chocolate labs and one yellow lab. My vet gave me some good advice. Your job as a pet owner is to give them the best life but also give them the best death. They deserve to go with dignity and pain free. It still is never easy and hurts my heart.

The only problem with a good dog is they never last long enough. He blessed your life, now it's time to send him back to his maker.

I was too weak to do it. But was going to go the next morning before my Nymeria passed..

She had a great last day looking at the birds, sun set and passing in my arms in her spot. It was peaceful.

I would say be strong for the others but it's hard.

Remember the joy they brought you and you them.

Think we found the serial downvoter. At least we know the “idiot” amongst the idiot strangers now.

You are doing the best thing for your fur-baby. A dog's unconditional love & loyalty are second to none. Prayers to you & your dog as he crosses the Rainbow Bridge. Take care bud!

Condolences, friend. Our dogs are the best, and the pain of their loss is just awful. Prayers for you both.

I’m so sorry; it’s the hardest decision, but better a week too soon than a week too late. Just know you gave each other the best years.

PS: My 14yo Golden is not far behind. Same issues. Hoping he makes it to 15 (July 23rd), but I don’t think he will.

I feel you man

My guy turned 14 in December and has slowed down a lot this last year.

I don't know how much time I have left with him but I've never started thinking about life without him until recently.

He's been with me since I was 27 and I'll be 42 in a few weeks. He's been through a lot with me

Isn't that amazing when you think about it? I've never seen a good pup in a "bad mood". My Sally has had some health scares, but her sweet demeanor has never, ever wavered.

We had to put our 16 year old gal down first week of January. I told the family we would not be keeping our dog around to make us feel better.
It was one of the toughest choices I had to make. However, it was absolutely the correct one. I feel it showed the most compassion and love for her then letting her suffer. Wish you all the best.

So sorry for your loss! I had to put my dog down in 2022 and I cried like a baby. I got another dog who is now 6 and when she goes it will absolutely crush me!

Listen to the song Run Maggie Run by Chris Stapleton. It’s a great song but it’s just heartbreaking. It is on my playlist even though it brings tears every time I hear it.

Agree. The downvoter is a coward who would never have the guts to show up and reveal who they are.
