These sought annexation (at MOPs urging) in the three years between the "failure" of the first vote and the filing of the new incorporation petition.

Thanks for the explanation - that makes perfect sense!

That was referring the school system, not the city government.

It was about legacy costs.

It’s extremely important for civic minded folks to stay involved. We need to do this right. Opportunities like this do not happen very often.

WAFB - St. George successful in "breaking away" from Baton Rouge

Honesty in reporting.

Of course, they point out Broome and the City-Parish have had YEARS to figure out what to do with the "loss" of the tax revenue and she has zero to offer at her press conference.

No doubt there's a $250 million IOU to St. George sitting in a drawer in her office and she's shitting bricks knowing that bill is about to come due.

I've read that any annexations that occurred after November 2019 are null and void. This will likely have to be litigated.

Nope, further back when the petition started in 2018:

A new state law prohibits City Hall from annexing any more from the proposed city’s boundaries land while the petition drive, which started in March, is ongoing.. LINK

Right now it affects United Plaza, Lipseys, Turner Industries, Louisiana State Employees Retirement System, Teachers Retirement System of Louisiana and Two Sisters of Baton Rouge since they were annexed in 2020.

Turner, LASERS, TRSL are all basically United Plaza, although United Plaza is actual its own entity. Not sure what Two Sisters is or where it’s located, but they were annexed in 2020 I believe. And then Lipsey’s is off Siegen.

She shouldn’t have to figure shite out, it should have been in escrow so the lack of that money should have already been accounted for in the cities budget.

I also noted in either this thread, or the other, that St. George has continued to have public transition meetings as required. SWB just assumed that the transition district didn’t exist because of the lawsuit. So she didn’t participate.

I get it. Just opining that I believe some cash will be flowing from a new StG ISD to EBRPSS for Woodlawn, etc. if and when it happens.

Broome let her private lawsuit against SG get in the way of her doing her official duties as mayor-president of the parish.

Now she needs to resign.

There had been precedent for this right here in EBR. Did Baker, Zachary or Central have to purchase their schools from EBRSS?

I don’t think so but I could be wrong.

I think Central built at least some of theirs so I’m honestly not sure.

I could be wrong about the assets though. I’d imagine it’s ultimately up to the legislature to sort that out though. It’ll be addressed in the creation of the new district

Has anyone told them that a new StG district is not happening for at least 3-5 years?

After the Central district was created, Central did renovate schools as well as build some new school buildings.

The quote was direct from the law. The citation was incorrect. The charge of dumbass stands, you were NEVER right. White liberal women are a scourge upon society. Thanks for the added identity clues to further solidify your wrongness

You're saying that someone who bought a house in that part of Baton Rouge 5, 10, 20, 50, 150 years ago didn't think they were moving to Baton Rouge, despite every service being provided by Baton Rouge and their addresses being in Baton Rouge?

I'd say 99% were very aware when they bought a house whether they were in the city limits or not. And, 100% knew they were within the parish boundary.

I left it at 99% to account for people like you.

I suspect you just started asking questions and found out you were within the city limits.
