Cut the players from 11 to 9. And cut the field down to about half the size.

You will get a bunch more goals or at least there will be a bunch more shots on goals.

This is the only reasonable change in a thread full of dumbassery. Draws are great, low scoring games can be fantastic. Sometimes that’s just the way a particular match goes. Doesn’t mean you need to change a sport to meet our ADD entertainment needs.

I thought VAR would be great but it’s interpretation is often skewed when each millisecond of action is scrutinized.

I’ve always thought 1 timeout per team would be huge for that sport. A lot of the flopping is because the game never stops and they need to catch their breath.

Also a line 25 yards from the goal, no offsides ahead to that line. Hard to get a fast break going when the field is squeezed by offsides.

let them use their hands

and just make them get the ball past where the goal used to be.

if that seems too much like a free for all the. maybe make the. take a break between plays

and give them
helmets.

Sounds childish but I agree. I’ve tried 2x to get into EPL and both games were 0-0 ties. It’s like watching paint dry

I’d just like to see for fun how much of a difference it would be to move the field in 10-20 yards length wise and widen the goals by 1-3 feet.

Make the field a little smaller, but indoor soccer gives you high scoring affairs and it never necessarily became popular.

I’d keep all the on field rules the same but allow way more substitutions. Guys can’t go balls out very often because of fatigue. I think if more Guys could sub maybe even in and out then you’d get a more attacking aggressive style of play that would also lead to more counterattacks which are exciting. More chances for goals = more goals and a more exciting game but not by diminishing the skill level.

I don't trust a sport where they don't know how to keep the fans aware of how much time is left.

Exactly

And it’s the most popular sport in the world because every 3rd world country can throw a ball on the ground and that’s their entertainment for the day. I never understood that argument. It doesn’t mean it’s the best or most entertaining

They arent buying $1000 worth of gear for Braxton.

For reference “offsides” is a gridiron football infraction

Why does the offside definition need adjustment? If a playable part of the body is off he’s off. You’re not going to be able to come up with alternate definition that makes sense

1) Offsides should be daylight rule (daylight between defender and offensive player).

I would like to see something similar to this. Make it so if the attacker has any body part even with the defender he isn't offside.

I'm in my 40's, grew up in BR playing football. Only the weird kids played soccer growing up.

I have a child that has been playing since she was 6, now she is 13 playing competitive soccer. My outlook on the sport has come a long way since I was a kid.

I admit it is hard to watch the pros because of the flopping. Watching an elite athlete writhe around on the ground over miniscule contact infuriates me. But surprisingly the refs usually fall for it! That's what I cannot understand- someone flops, then 3-4 teammates get in the ref's face, and then he either calls the foul or pulls a card.

The sport shouldn't change rules for casual people who only watch the WC or Olympics. I do think they should add an additional ref to the pitch. Hell basketball is 1/4 the size and they have 3 refs. There's just no way 1 ref can follow the ball but also be aware of any contact on another part of the field.

I would be for the "daylight" rule for offisides. Using VAR to show that a fingernail is out front goes against the nature of the rule IMO.

Soccer has 3 refs, not just 1. 4 if you count the 4th official.

You have no idea how bad that would make the game.

I would like to see them loosen the offside rule if they are going to use VAR. If any part of the body is even with or behind the 2nd to last opposing player, then the player is onside.

I agree with this. Treat it like a QB throwing a ball at the LOS, just a piece of the QB would need to be behind LOS. Just a piece of attacker would need to be in-line with defender.

Why? Should the NFL have loosened the rule about what constitutes breaking the plane of the goal line?

These are objective calls not open to interpretation

This has actually changed. Now only body parts you are allowed to strike the ball with count for offsides, so shoulders/legs/head. If your arm is the furthest thing forward and the only part offsides it won't count for offsides on VAR
