Two weeks ago the House passed HB 813 to abolish abortion in the state of Louisiana. Mike Johnson in large part is responsible for killing this bill. When politicians profess their faith publicly and profess how pro-life they are, in the end rule on the side of: “republicans won’t win elections if we do this” or “now is not the time.” Mike even threatened pastor Brian Gunter and Danny McCormick on the future of their respective careers.

Let us all ask this question: When is the right time to really abolish abortion? Who cares about elections, be courageous and do the right thing and stand for those who can’t! Babies born and unborn should have equal protection.

The bottom line is, left or right, they’re all alike. They just want POWER. It’s a shame that no one can can do what they say they’ll do for fears of losing elections.

It does no one any benefit to make an unelectable issue a core part of your platform. Regardless of how you personally feel about it, the American public has expressed that they feel differently on abortion.

If Republicans want to tie their success to banning abortion they will lose almost every election going forward, meaning Democrats will have free reign to shape the country to their liking.

I'm sick of gutless politicians and citizens who are too afraid of doing what is right because of "electability". If this country is moving progressive, I'm not going to turn into a progressive to be elected, and I'm not going to vote for progressives because they might be a little better than the others that they will vote along side of.

I'd rather lose every election going forward than betray my Christian principles.

I can understand the need to consider the prospect of long term victory. I suppose if you look at it like dropping the bombs on Japan. It is impossible to say the decision to drop the bomb didn't create a massive moral dilemma. Do we make a decision to sacrifice thousands of innocent civilians in order to win down the road in a war than needs to be won? For many, history seems to bare out that it was a necessary evil. Are you comfortable saying it consistent with "Christian principles" to agree with targeting and dropping the bomb on Japanese civilians? If not, do you 100% think it should not have been done?

I suppose if you 100% believe killing all of those innocent Japanese civilians in order to end the war with then is unacceptable, then yes, I think your stance is consistent and I can respect it.

If you do think the morally gray decision to dropping the bomb was needed to win the larger war, then I think it is hard to say Mike Johnson is 100% wrong for his tactic.

If allowing the bill to go through loses the war down the road, what did it really accomplish? I don't know what the answer is I can't sit here and say the stance that Mike Johnson is taking is 100% good or 100% evil.

Never. Your stupid stance will guarantee abortion on demand without any limitations.

Abortion does not fit into Article 1: Section 8 of the Constitution, and thus is not an issue over which Congress has any authority. As such, Abortion is an issue for State Governments to exercise their authority over. In addition to being an electoral loser for the GOP at the national level, Congress outlawing abortion is blatantly Unconstitutional.

The “right” thing done the wrong way is the wrong action as it merely paves the way for doing the wrong thing the wrong way.

People within this discussion should care about winning elections. What will you accomplish if you lose elections?

You want the Democrats to sweep the House, Senate, and Presidency well this Abortion issue will do it. It will pull women out of their homes in droves and towards the voting booth. Let this issue die on the vine.

Bless your heart!
Your words are pure, but over-the-moon naive, and unrealistic.
There's always a BEST time and place to pull the trigger, and it should be well planned and thoughtout.

Republicans need to chill out on all the abortion talk. Its a losing issue at the polls and all its doing is helping get Democrats elected and allow them to push all their radical left wing agendas, including abortion almost up until birth.

Republicans are going to die on the hill of abortion and its going to cost us gun rights, higher taxes, more open borders, and a crap economy

It’s a loser. It makes no sense to do it. You can stand on your abortion principles and hold no offices then you can look forward to partial birth abortions.

OP either the purposely distorted the facts around the bill being killed or does not understand the reason it was killed. Regardless, your attack on Johnson is not warranted or supported by the record.

That’s actually one of the foundational bases of representative government.

The issue was returned to the States. Now you want a national debate all over again. Roe v Wade II

Hard pass.
