As an adult, are there Birthdays you really celebrate?

If so, which ones?

I sort of just eat with my family. Blow out some candles. Keep it simple.

I feel awkward asking friends to take time to “celebrate” my birthday.

I had some people over when I turned 50. It was fun. I would do it again at 100 I think.

I guess I’ve changed some over the years.

I’m glad to be alive. I just don’t want to bother myself or anyone else, I don’t enjoy scheduled events in general, and don’t like taking other people’s time or my time away with scheduled activities.

I really only play golf with friends. I can’t remember going out to eat with anyone besides family in the last 5 years. I’m sort of a recluse, other than golf. It does not require much social skill. I like it bc I turn my phone off while I’m there. I loathe the phone. I enjoy going to the Masters bc phones are banned.

I know some womenz in the household that like to turn this into a whole weekend. Me, just give me a cake and candles surrounded with my kiddos. I’m fine with keeping this simple in my old age.

This is what I mean by celebrating most of them But I turn 40 this year and my wife is pushing to do something special. We shall see.

I don't think I've celebrated a birthday since college. My birthday typically falls on Father's Day weekend, so I just get the weekend to do what I want, which is typically golf or fishing or something.

Although this year me and my wife and our friend group are all (or most) are turning 40, so a bunch of us are going to Costa Rica for a week together as a "40th Birthday Bash" thing, so I guess we are celebrating turning 40.

My birthday was yesterday. My son & his GF came up, so did my MIL and my brother. My son grilled steaks for all of us and we had a nice family dinner. They gave me presents (my brother gave me a nice 5.56 AR-15 with four full magazines) and my wife made my favorite cake, strawberry & strawberry. No candles or anything. It wasn’t a milestone or anything, I’m in my mid-50s, just a nice family gathering. All in all, I’d say it was a perfect birthday.

Similar. The day I turned 50 I was at a friends house most of the day helping him with a project that kept me out of the house until around 6 p.m.

It was in November and almost dark when I got home. Parked my truck in the driveway and started up the back stairs and hit with "Surprise" by about 20 people.

My wife had gotten my friend to lure me away while she got the party food and stuff ready for guests to arrive.

TOTALLY took me by surprise. I even had to take a shower while the guests were here to make myself presentable since I was filthy from the work.

As for all that followed, I don't need anything, want anything or any more hoopla over my birthdays. I've passed 60 and 70 with no fanfare.

Most are just like any other day but, with a cake and maybe dinner with some family. Ten year bdays, 30, 40, 50 ........ I might do something bigger and invite friends for a Sunday Funday by the pool.

When my kids were little I started having themed parties again. It seemed silly at first, but it was fun. My son was 4 and asked what kind of party I was having? I said a birthday, but he insisted I had something else. So I think I went with either Star Wars or Monster Trucks for the first one. Went to Party City and got a few decorations.

This is how I feel.

I don't want to make a big to-do about my birthday. A nice day with family is all I want.

I can't stand when people need huge blowouts or trips every year.

34 but haven't truly "celebrated" a birthday since I turned 18. But I'm not an attention whore so there's that.
