How do they compare to the powers of the executive to grow government?
Do you believe Obama and Biden had/have no power to grow government?
All executives need congress to grow or shrink government in any substantial manner. About the only why they can cut government are by the rules already set in place by congress that allow executive discretion. Obama or Biden may even try to grow government to only be checked by the courts and sometimes the courts let them go...see Dreamers. The executive thwarting congress is limited by how weak or strong congress is.
If you really want to shrink government focus more attention on congress. They have the power. The executive might satiate your wants for a period of time but you will only be frustrated. Our government is not set up to shrink especially by the executive. It's really up to the legislature.

One other thing to point out. This board is obviously dominated by Louisiana natives and Trump is immensely popular there. In addition to some of the issues that plague the rest of white middle class America, and much of the South for that matter, the state has about the lowest self esteem and most negativity you will ever seen in any given populace. They are ripe for the taking. The Big Man will fight on their behalf and solve all their problems.

Until they run into a veto

It's both. Major legislation requires all 3 parties (House, Senate, and the Presidential admin) to negotiate an acceptable law. This isn't the 1820s, when Congress would literally draft a document of a proposed law and send it to the President, which he reviewed for the first time upon presentation.

Hence the whole glorification of the people over the elites thing is stupid and will end up with the people rising up and the MAGA types going "oh no, not like that!"

Sometimes I hope for a good Carrington Event to cull the herd but that will leave us as sitting ducks from counties like China or Russia on the other side of the earth.

Patience isn't really the issue there. We could play the long game just fine if the marxists weren't overtly working to destroy the country so that it can be remade in the socialist/communist mold.
We can frick around with a new party all we want, at this point. What we are going to find out is that we gave the marxists EXACTLY what they needed to finish the destruction of this country, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and our founding principles.
Either way, the result can only be violence, and Americans killing each other.

They can pass veto proof legislation. They have done it before.

It's both.
Yes, typically.

I mean, from the moment Obama said it everyone knew deep down he was right, at least to an extent.
An a-hole comment sure, but not without truth. Of course, guns and especially faith are far more valuable things to cling to than a septuagenarian billionaire, but it's the same concept. People with holes in their lives looking to fill them.

I recall in his first week in office he signed an EO saying nobody can make a new regulation without eliminating two previous regulations. That's in the smaller government direction.

I've been thinking a lot lately about how Ron was the last real hope.
I volunteered for his campaigns in 2008 and 2012 and got spat on by Giuliani, Romney and Gingrich supporters. What's funny is now the Biden Democrats sound just like the Republicans did back then. That's why a lot of Paulites are now Trump folks. Our enemies back then are now Trump's enemies, regardless of actual policies.

I understand that. I think where we differ is in the the role a president plays in leading congress. Especially when his party controls the House or lacks control by a manageable margin. I expect a Republican president to lead congressional Republicans. I don't think you do.

Yes, but the leader of the party plays a role here.

This is correct but this EO is only under the discretionary administrative laws passed by congress already in place. Discretionary laws for agencies and legal departments are permissive, and not binding.
Need congress to make substantial cuts in government.

Name the politicians that have shrunk the federal government in the last 30 years?
