They say the best ability is availability. Ed Alexander is a definite upgrade over Gilmore but Gilmore played in every game at nose tackle. Alexander is better against double teams and could win his one on one, and you can't say the same for Gilmore. Hopefully Ed could heal up because he could be a dominant force at nose tackle.

Obviously the coaches know better than the fans and we will have to wait to see what happens, but I don't know if that makes the DL better. It sounds like you get weaker at both NT AND DE with that move

My thoughts exactly

This move really puzzles me

know. Shocked that the DL whisperer couldn’t turn them into at least late round guys. I’ve heard he single handedly tonight Warren Sapp everything he knows about football and The Rock about wrastlin

What a childish rebuttal to what is a solid point.

Been watching EA since sophomore year in HS. Same song, 6th verse. Just wait till healthy....wIt till next year, etc, etc.
when you play in 2A and have his size, you should be the most dominant DLman in the state. Never happened.

How is it a solid point Earl??

Since when is everything about where a guy gets drafted to show how much losing them will impact the team the following season??

All three of those dudes were major contributors to this program for years.

Same with your BS OL point you’ve been trying to make. So what if the guys weren’t drafted, we always had one of the best running games in the country which makes the coaching they got under Miles even MORE impressive.

And these dudes are shitting on three DL for not getting drafted saying they weren’t great yet touting a bunch of dudes that aren’t even in college classes yet as automatic upgrades??

Give me a break.

If the DL is significantly better this year I will be thoroughly impressed.

And it’s all the guys claiming this will be the best DL we’ve had in years that say it’s unreasonable to expect a NY6 Bowl type season.

Go figure

Feel free to bookmark this, I’ll happily eat crow if we’re terrorizing OLs all year.

But if the line looks about the same as last year, which I don’t think was all that bad btw, and we end up getting pushed around by teams in certain games again, I’ll be bumping this for everyone trying to say “Well EVERYONE knew we still had a long way to go in the rebuilding of the trenches”

It really is not that complicated. Our best 4 defensive linemen are Lawrence, Fehoko, Alexander, and Logan. Alexander is hurt. Our next best NT is Shelvin but he is not ready for prime time yet bc of weight issues. So you move Fehoko, who is more versatile to NT and then put Logan at end. Is our line better without Alexander? Obviously not. But it’s better with Fehoko at NT and Logan at end than with Shelvin at NT and Fehoko staying at end.

What does it tell you that they weren’t drafted?

Think about it

Go watch the Dave Aranda interview where he talks about the front 7 & the ability to be able to rotate more on the line this year. He has the biggest shite eating grin you’ll ever get from him. This isn’t something drummed up by Rantards.

You want to be right more than you want LSU to be successful, which is kinda sad. You need to stop denying that

Going from a dude listed at 339 to a guy listed at 298 at the NT in a 3-4 is a major switch.

I’m not questioning the move, I’ll respect O’s expertise there obviously but to act like it isn’t troublesome about the DL is foolish.

It also is a huge red flag on Shelvin imo. If he was in shape and ready to be the impact player many are acting like he is, I think it would be likely that he would move into the starting lineup and Fehoko would stay out at end.

I’m sure Fehoko will move around, all of the top 4 seem able to do that which is great, but I just think swapping Ed for Fehoko at nose is more concerning than yall are admitting.

You quoted me saying I’ll happily admit I’m wrong and say I want to be right more than I want LSU to be successful

What’s sad is now ANYTHING other than full positiger spin is wanting LSU to fail

I say the DL isn’t automatically better after losing three proven contributors and replacing them with guys that haven’t proven much here, and you say I want LSU to fail

Maybe, maybe not.

DA and Coach O obviously think it is, which is all that really matters.

Guess we'll see

Offseason talk means nothing.

Hell, if O gets called out for saying we were going to the CFP last year y’all scream WHAT IS HE SUPPOSED TO SAY???

Well, what is Aranda supposed to say leading up to week 1?

Yeah we were thin last year and now may be even thinner despite the fact my boss has been touting rebuilding the trenches for going on two years now??

I agree the starters look great. But the depth is worse than last year imo, at least as far as having PROVEN contributors is concerned.

We may have a few more bodies but are those bodies ready to step on the field and actually outplay guys like Lac, Gilmore, and Herron that yall so casually dismiss as “nothing special”??

We’ll certainly see soon

Shelvin has a quality spring. Might not be a full time starter but could give quality snaps
