This is concerning. I was going into this season excited for our DL. Now I'm skeptical

What body type?

Who are the 5 DEs besides Fehoko who have this body type.

Also besides having this body type, you still have to be good enough to not just get blown off the ball.

6'3"-6-4" 280-310 range

the opposite of your sam montgomery's and Mingos that you see in a more traditional DE in a 4-3 that are in the 240-250 range

So that’s all we need. Bodies?

You don’t have to be JJ what but you Can’t just be a guy.

If you don’t demand a double team
you aren’t going to get one, and the whole “they’re just eating blocks” shite goes out the window.

Like I’ll admit bodies is better than no bodies but your acting like this shouldn’t be anyone’s concern.

That’s literally this arguement.

Well you keep wanting to compare it to last year, and that is what went on last year. So of course its part of the discussion.

You already admit you like the starters better this year.

So you like the starters better, and you admit that having bodies is better than no bodies. And you're going to sit here and split hairs about who our 3rd string DEs are. frick man

I wasnt Worried about our 3rd strong last year till they were suddenly our 2nd string and playing lots of snaps.

We 3rd string players saw significant time last year?

Even after all these pages, you are still missing the point. You're a waste of fricking time sammy.

We didn't have a 3rd string last year. Instaad, guys like Lacoture were playing nearly every snap in certain games.

So do you think he starts against Miami?

They absolutely want Alexander to make the start, but are being cautionary with him this fall practice to get him as healthy as possible for the season. Impossible to tell what his knees will look like 4 weeks from now, but they definitely want Alexander/Shelvin taking those NT snaps this year. Fehoko just gives them an out in case Alexander just cant give it a strong go like he wasn't able to much last season.

Fehoko is a really strong dude, he would have no problem filling for Alexander. We just lose some depth at DE basically by doing that.

Keep in mind we aren't in 3 down every single play, Aranda likes to go 2-4-5 some plays with the 2 DEs playing (Fehoko/Lawrence) in passing down situations.

At the start of the season before any injuries or suspension our 2 deep was

Lawrence/Gilmore/ Lacouture
Herron/Alexander/Logan
Neil and guys like Clark.

Neil farrell was a 3rd string guy, and he played extensively vs Miss St (till he was booted) and Troy.

You’re just fricking wrong.

It is a waste of time to engage in an arguement you don’t know shite anout

wow. i had no idea. im no doctor but I do understand that surgery is absolutely not advised. But I would think if he has been cut on already why would he not try and get it fixed. Who cares about this season of playing time if he is wearing his body down. Fix his knee as best they can spend a full year rehabbing and play his senior year.. that's what i would think but geeze if his knee has a timer on it I'd hate for what happened to Glenn Dorsey to kinda happen to him.

It's a matter of lost cartilage, nothing surgery can do about it, the shots just help out.

Even if he balls out this year, it's unlikely an NFL team would draft him highly with that kind of knee problem.

How many DL do you think we dress out this year Earl?

We only traveled 6 defensive linemen to the MSU game last year. Lawrence was out due to injury. Thomas didn't make the trip IIRC (travel roster limits).

Gilmore/Alexander/LaCouture got the start, while Logan, Farrell and Deondre Clark were the only other players on the DL. We lost Alexander to an injury that game and Farrell got kicked out in 2nd half. We ended up with just 4 defensive linemen, 1 being Deondre Clark who basically never really played (he appeared in just 3 games all last season, the same 3 Lawrence missed due to injury). It was some dire times.

Gilmore and Alexander were NT's.

Let's try this again, Sammy. Please review our DE depth chart from last year. Also make sure to include Herron was suspended for 7 games. Also include that Clark didn't travel for road games. Tell us what 3rd string players played.

If that’s the only reason, how does any team bring enough DL to road games?

Thomas didn’t make the trip because he wasn’t ready to play, and his spot went to like a 4th strong receiver.

Im struggling to see an obvious redshirt for any of our freshmen DLs.

with the new rule they will all play some early on. 1 or 2 might redshirt in the end.

You think all of those true freshmen travel??

I doubt Cotton travels and I’d be shocked if both Livingston and Jenkins travel, both may not.

Just depends game to game. You're looking at 9 per game at the least being on hand
