Just depends game to game. You're looking at 9 per game at the least being on hand
I’m looking at 8 for sure, and that includes Alexander (already hurt) and Shelvin (can he add more than a handful of snaps?)
Who are your 9?
Bottom line is we have six legit two deep dependable guys (including Thomas who hasn’t shown anything).
Those true freshmen aren’t doing anything in September, which is when we had depth issues that supposedly cost us games (TROY when we had 5)

It's a matter of lost cartilage, nothing surgery can do about it, the shots just help out. Even if he balls out this year, it's unlikely an NFL team would draft him highly with that kind of knee problem.
Ouch...that sucks. Probably from all that weight wearing on that knee. He will probably need micro fracture surgery in the off season. That is one of the only ways to put cartilage back. Mircro fracture surgery takes about a year to recover from though.
If I were him, I would sit out this year and do the surgery and come back next season.

If that’s the only reason, how does any team bring enough DL to road games?
Your roster limit size for road games is smaller than allowed for home games. You can only travel 70 guys IIRC for a road game, where you can dress like 80-85 for home games.
They shut down Thomas though after the UTC game.

Impossible to say at this point, we still have all fall practice to go through.
Assuming everyone is healthy and able to play though:
Fehoko, Alexander, Lawrence, Logan, Shelvin, Farrell are all 100% sure bets.

You’re an absolute dickhead.
1. I know Gilmore and Alexander were NTs. I have Our entire 2 deep for all 3 positions.
Why would I not Include a guy who was clearly second string before his suspension? He came back and immediately played immediately.
My whole point is that guys who look like 3rd string players now BECOME 2nd string players as soon as someone in the 2 deep can’t play.
You’re making a ullshit semantics argument.
Do you think a team can start a 2nd string player?

Let's try this again, Sammy. Please review our DE depth chart from last year. Also make sure to include Herron was suspended for 7 games. Also include that Clark didn't travel for road games. Tell us what 3rd string players played.

Dare Rosenthal will travel I would assume.

Agreed and I just posted that above you.
We had six to start at MSU last year as well.
That’s my whole point. We really aren’t in a much different position.

Just looked this up to make sure:
Home team dresses 95 players, only 80 can play
Away team allowed to dress 70 players
Just search SEC football travel roster limit on google and there's a pdf named "Figure 17-1 - KSBA Portal" that shows all the roster limits by sport for home/away.

I dont know what Freshmen will emerge to guess. 7 returners from last year
Rosenthal & Jenkins would be my guess but who knows.

I would HOPE, not assume.
And he’s a NT anyway. Depth isn’t an issue there.
And we’re putting a lot of blind faith in O that he found this diamond in the rough that wasn’t ranked top 300 or top 25 at his position to just assume he’s going to be ready to step in and contribute in September.

This is the whole point. Everyone keeps saying BODIES and depth is OBVIOUSLY better but you can’t even tell me which players will dress because you are counting true freshmen that weren’t even highly ranked.
But you’ll dismiss Gilmore Lac Herron and Clark because they weren’t drafted

We're certainly in a much different position, last year we had a total of 9 scholarship defensive linemen (able to play), Herron was suspended the first 6 games of the season, so we only had 8 then with him out. Lawrence missed 3 of those first 6 games games as well during that time, so only 7 available in 3 of first 6 games. Thomas they shut down after game 2 as well, kept him on practice squad I believe.
This year we have 12 scholarship defensive linemen to start out.
2017
NT Gilmore
NT Alexander
DE LaCouture
DE Lawrence
DE Logan
DE Farrell
DE Thomas
DE Herron
DE Clark
2018
NT Alexander
NT Shelvin
NT Hines
NT Livingston
DE Lawrence
DE Fehoko
DE Logan
DE Farrell
DE Thomas
DE Cotton
DE Rosenthal
DE Jenkins
Much much deeper pool of guys

Too early to say which freshmen might travel, I would put Cotton in front of all of them though right now...that guy is a beast. He missed his entire senior year with injury, but looked pretty dang good in the spring. He could have been a very high 4-star had he not gotten hurt for his senior year, but still stayed a 4-star to the end of the process with zero senior film.

You hope it never comes to having to play these guys significantly, but the difference from last year to this year is at least you have someone on hand to throw in there in an emergency.

I dismissed them as being top end talent guys. Ive said numerous times that they played well, especially within the defense. I never said they sucked or that this was even a weak spot. I think we have more dynamic players this year. And we for sure have more depth.

Shelvin can play more than a handful of snaps. Yes, he's overweight, but he's also a once every five years type of nose tackle talent.

Hines is an OL now.
It’s 2 deeper and 4 are True freshmen

I actually asked Shea/Sonny on 247 about that very recently, they said he's on the DL right now and is listed that way on the roster.

3 deeper with Hines, 5 true freshmen, but also 7 guys with actual game experience. Nobody injured, ineligible or suspended right now either. Remember, we missed Herron first 6 games of last year, making that 9 only 8, and Lawrence also missed 3 of those 6 games, making that 8 just 7....then Thomas got shut down too after first 2 games. Clark was one of those guys remaining who was basically treated like a scout team walk on even as a senior...
The difference between last year and this year is night and day, better starting group, better depth, way more bodies.

First off, Ed is hurt. That’s what started this whole thread.
But again, that’s the point.
We seemed to have depth last year too until injuries/ejections made it no so anymore.
It’s fine to say look at all this depth right now but if Rashard were to get nicked again, another on the two deep go down or get ejected, we’d be right back where we were last year because I guarantee you all those freshmen won’t be dressed at Auburn and we’ll be playing with 5 guys like we were against State.
And let me be clear, I’m not saying the DL won’t be very good. But I also thought the DL was good last year. Those that knock our seniors and blame the DL for MSU/Troy are the ones that don’t apparently.
Missing two or three guys wasn’t a 30 point difference against State. It was a shitty game plan by Aranda and O didn’t have the team prepared and our offense was dogshit that couldn’t get a first down to stay on the field all goddamn night. A couple of extra true freshmen wouldn’t have changed that.
I don’t think we’ll have that kind of meltdown again though.
And as for Troy, I don’t give a frick if we had two DL all night (we had five), that is still no excuse for getting pushed around all night. We are at home (homecoming ), throw some fricking walk on special teams guys in there to put their hands in the dirt and stop the bleeding if you need to. Ryan O Neal wouldn’t have been embarrassed like that
That’s on coaching/prep and shitty offense once again, not depth.
Talk about our DL senior guys not getting drafted so they’re “nothing special”?? Not a single fricking player from Troy was drafted or will be.
Our walk ons should have been able to stop those dudes.
Depth didn’t cost us either game, hopefully it won’t this year either.

Back to the "walk ons should have beat Troy" thing I see.
Troy lost by a touchdown to Deshaun Watson the year before. If our walk ons were better, they'd be on scholarship somewhere else.
