Lawrence
Fehoko
Alexander
Logan
Farrell
Shelvin
Thomas

Pretty solid group here of guys that we know will see the field this year. I think Rosenthal, Cotton , Hines and MAYBE Jenkins become contributors at some point this season. We'll need them for sure

O said he’s ready to go. So I’ll beliebe the guy that’s been coaching DL for 30 years

GG and CL weren’t even close to the talent of Ed and Fehoko. But Ed’s durability is a big issue. His knee but he tapped out in games he could’ve gone. Serious problem if Shelvin isn’t ready. Unless Logan is as good as advertised

Fehoka may not have the mass of Ed. But don't get it twisted. He's an SEC caliber nose guard with his strength. He is going to create pressure.

INTERIOR PRESSURE frickS UP OFFENSES

In no way shape or form would O argue with my statement that Rosenthal needs a lot of work on his technique.

Ready to go doesn't mean what you think it means. I suspect that meant he's in shape physically and is healthy.

If you find me a quote where O said the kid is technically sound I will STFU.

Obviously the coaches know better than the fans and we will have to wait to see what happens, but I don't know if that makes the DL better. It sounds like you get weaker at both NT AND DE with that move

Depends.

If LSU runs a more attacking style 3-4 defense, with the NT attacking one gap (sorta like a 4-3 3-tech DT..ala Dorsey), then I can see the shift of Fehoko to NT.

Just a nugget to add here. Shelvin is 100% a full go and ready for camp. Cleared about a month ago and has passed his conditioning test. Hopefully he continues to drop even more weight in camp and get in the best shape possible before the 1st game.

I can seem him MAYBE moving to NT on obvious passing downs to get a quicker people in there. Other than that the 3-4 is a system in which Fehoko could excel more at playing DE, and it’s not like we have some slouch at NT.

Had knee surgery in high school that didn't go well, every year he gets injections into his knees to help, but he's never quite been 100%. Despite that, when he does get reps, he's clearly a very dominant inside guy, just cant play very long.

I think this move is exclusively to keep Alexander's knees in the best health possible for the season. They know what kind of player he is and dont want him taking 40-50 reps every day in practice/scrimmages and wear him down the month before the season starts. Every full rep he takes in practice is probably 1 less rep he can take on his knees during the season.

This gives Fehoko the chance to practice some at NT if they need him there this season if Alexander just cant give it a full go like last year to rotate with Shelvin. It also gives Logan the opportunity to see a lot of quality reps at DE and bring him along even further.

Right now, I would consider this move just as a health saving measure for Ed's knees for the season basically.

Going from a dude listed at 339 to a guy listed at 298 at the NT in a 3-4 is a major switch.

They want to shoot gaps this year and penetrate. Fehoko will allow you to do that at nose with a 1 gap scheme. It’ll also help Devin White (and Phillips of course) who played very undisciplined at times last year and gave up some big plays by not forcing them to essentially be 2 gap players as well.

The front 7 this year will look more like the 2016 front or something like Auburn’s the past few years

There’s a reason he was starting at E and not NT.

It’s not a good thing that Alexander is hurt and Shelvin is too fat.

I believe you will see Shelvin and Alexander be able to give a minimum of 25+ snaps per game between the two of them. Minimum...

So do you think he starts against Miami? A good NT has been what’s missing from this defense since switching to 3-4. We moved Godchaux over to NT a couple years ago since Travonte Valentine never panned out, and had to use Gilmore some as well. I sure hope Alexander is ready by game 1, he is our best run stuffer up front. He made plays and disrupted the backfield every time they put him in last season. Also, I wonder why they decided to swap Logan and Fehoko. In the spring Logan played NT and I thought he looked good. I think things could change in a couple days once they put pads on and start practicing.

So from this thread Alexander will never be able to give us a full sec season going all out all game?

It just makes us thin on quality depth at DE.
