But wait, wasn't Lofton Atlanta's best LB? When the Saints got him it was like y'all raided and pillaged Atlanta and stole him?!

Atlanta traded Lofton to the Saints?

Lofton was free to sign with whoever he wanted. He chose a team he knew he could actually win a Super Bowl with.

He'll jump on some routes and get some picks but he also guesses wrong a lot of times too. Hopefully they will overpay for him

I thought Lofton was your second best linebacker, because Spoon is a beast.

I think you can get a couple of productive years out of Samuel.

I thought he was taller for some reason. Only 5'10"

This x 1000. While I think Asante would be a good pickup for Atlanta - it still gives them 2 guys that play CB that I am as tall as. That's a problem.

I've met Grimes and he's about 5'8" or 5'9", if Asante is 5'10" - they're gonna need help with tall WR's/TE's.

What kind of coverage scheme does Nolan run?

Sounds a lot like what Alabama has been running lately. Found a good write up on it.

Very overrated cover corner.

Very good corner in cover 2.

I could have sworn I read the Falcons were going away from cover 2, so it wouldn't make much sense to me this acquisition.

I'd have to see the contract they gave him, but it's a good acquisition for a low round pick. They have good depth now.

I'll agree with this. Any time you can improve the depth in the secondary it's a good thing, and even if he's lost a step, he's a good veteran to bring in at the right price.

Good move for them but I don't think it will really matter much to us.

Jason David was an experienced CB...

Now, I'm not comparing Samuel to David, but you can't make an absolute statement like that.

BTW...

quote:

Barring any unforeseen setbacks the trade will be completed Wednesday, sources told La Canfora. Samuel is reworking the final two years of the existing contract -- which were not guaranteed in the first place -- and is preparing to sign the new deal Wednesday, which would consummate the trade. Samuel is set to make $21.5 million over the next two seasons, and he would count for more than $8 million against the salary cap.

Samuel's new contract would not add any additional terms to his deal, sources told La Canfora.

Didnt help the eagles much last year, and has had an obvious drop in production. He'll get lost in the mix in ATL...IMO

Actually, I think Robinson gets lost in the mix, or at least moves to nickle corner.

Apparently, they're going to have the highest paid secondary in NFL history.

With Samuel, Grimes, and Robinson.

He's definitely better than what they have, I won't deny that, but they'll need much more than just that to compete with us.
