It's not unprecedented, the last time the U.S. did something similar was in 1947.

Trump also threw out the idea of buying Greenland. Denmark's current Prime Minister (and previous PMs) was complaining, publicly, about how much tax revenue goes to subsidizing Greenland, like it was a massive burden. So Trump threw out the idea of buying it. IMO, a very interesting idea, considering the mineral wealth and tourism potential Greenland has. Also, Greenland is part of the North American continent, not Europe. People who impune the idea keep their brain in a box

I figure that a frozen wasteland with virtually no people living in it should be worth far more than a piece of shite island full of people and corruption but no resources.
