Yeah, I'll buy that that was just cause to be fired.

And it's a shame he's resigning because he handled the situation so poorly even after he made the right call in relieving Crozier of command.

It's a really shitty situation all around.

Did you see the email? Everyone on that email was military leaders in uniform. All were flag officers or Captains in senior positions. And it was like 20, not 40.

that matches the commentary i've seen on the subject from old AD buddies

it went from "and the Navy wonders why nobody wants command" ( ) and "look how the crew appreciates him standing up for them that's awesome" to "MOTHERfrick THIS CLOWN POLI-SCI TEACHER arse TOADY"

Which is EXACTLY what happened to the CO.

This is what our cancel culture brings us. People in the military, who should not be affected by bullshite, can't rail on their reports because our communist propaganda press pushes the agenda of their handlers well.

Snowflake culture has infected our military. Our drill sergeants and generals can't yell anymore because OMG THEIR POOR FEELINGS.

Toddy, please. Real men are in the navy. Or at least used to be.
You cannot side with anyone who usurps the chain of command. It leads to weakness and defeat, but then, that’s what you want isn’t it?

The chain of command argument in this case is weak. SECNAV himself gave the CO his personal cell. That alone usurp the chain of command. There at least 6 admirals is his chain of command that he should be speaking to before SECNAV.

The navy said there was no evidence that the captain leaked the email himself and I believe them but they still relieved him of command because, well, the email was still leaked and if they can't find the leaker, they'll just cut out the guy who wrote the email in the first place.

Just a shitty situation all around and there are no winners here.

Exactly what was OPSEC? Nothing in his letter was classified and our ship location was a known fact.

Operational readiness.

I mean, I suppose that doesn't mean much to the Navy, but in the Army we're not going to let our adversaries know if units in the field don't have the combat strength they should due to illness.

Right.

OPSEC is only one part of the story here. I've previously commented in other threads that he undermined his chain of command and that just cannot be tolerated coming from someone of his position.

And shame on the Navy for not being more responsive to the situation that prompted the email in the first place. The Navy should not be dealing with this embarrassment but they chose to anyway.

Just a clusterfrick all around.

Wasn't there an Admiral aboard the carrier? If so, was he in his chain of command?

1. Everyone knew we what we were dealing with.

2. I think those who are not active underestimate an adversary intel's capability. Trust me, they know

Yep, he's still here.

Ironically, though we have heard from SECNAV and fleet commanders...haven't heard from him, and he's onboard. not a word this entire process

The CO did what he did because we were at a breaking point with no help on the horizon. In fact, us officers were briefed on the likelihood we would have to step in food preparation.
Your C/O released materials concerning a combat ship's mission readiness to the public. That is inexcusable. Sorry. Not debatable.

Your crew then followed suit in releasing the SecNavy conversation. Releasing information from a US Carrier to the entire globe is a damn bad habit. It's now happened twice in a short span. If you do not see a significant issue there, I can assure you you'd do well to reevaluate.
