Most of us will agree the 2019 LSU football team was probably the best college team ever...so far. What would it take to equal or beat that team's position?

Our incoming D freshman class along with the recruits we're looking at for next year got me thinking.

That 2019 team had a Burrow lead Offense as it's signature. I'd love to see a Lane team do the same thing (of course it will have Offense) with a signature Defense. I could see it lead by a Lamar Brown personality. I'd love to see the most decisive dominating Defense ever assembled and run the table.

Nothing will beat the 2019 team because nothing is the same anymore. NIL and transfer rules changed after that. So you will never be able to compare apples to apples.

Just be happy with the 2019 champions. Won't be deplucated. I have watched LSU football since the 70's. That team was the only LSU team I wasn't on pins and needles about the outcome. Even the couple of times it was close. Joey b wasn't losing that year.

A team will have to beat 9 - top 10 teams, win the Matty, and win every offensive award and coaching award possible.

The 2026 team will have a "Burrow Like QB" led Offense with a better OL. (And one of the OL Coaches {James Cregg} was the OL Coach in 2019)

A Wolford and Cregg competently coached OL with the return of a traditional LSU power punning game is what I'm most looking forward to in 26.

All the RB's will be coached better by Kevin Smith too. If one of them gets a Hot Hand, I don't think you'll see KS taking him out of the game a la Frank Wilson.

I also want to see Blake Baker scheme a Defense that can fricking stop a "Running Quarterback."

Those are my two big "Wanna See's" this season.

No BK "Leadership Council" uniform BS either. Wear your famous Gold-White-Gold for every SEC game Home and Away and pull out the Gold-Purple-Gold and White-White-White for the OOC games. No other uniform BS!

The hands down, best CFB team ever assembled. Nobody will come close.

There would have to be arguments like there were in late 2019 about multiple teams being the best ever. I remember people saying maybe OSU was the best ever. Then there was little ole Clemson, somehow flying under the radar on a 2-year unbeaten streak..

LSU slayed some monsters on top of all the ridiculous stats and draft picks.

These days you don't seem to have 2-3 all-time type teams in the same season, but that's what it would take along with a string of top 10 wins and records going down.

Elimination of the portal. Teams today cannot build the depth and quality of development like the teams of the pre-2020 era.

Football teams now are a far cry from the talent levels and depth of the pre-China Virus era.

Lane could rattle off 2 natties in a row and it still wouldn’t eclipse 2019 in my book

Idk if Lane won back to back titles at LSU that would be very close to topping 2019. Especially if they were undefeated seasons. Obviously because LSU has never been remotely close to repeating as National Champions in their football history.

Will need the following:

- undefeated
- beating the Top 8 (possible thanks to expanded playoff)
- avg margin of victory 25+
- Heisman winner with greater vote % than Burrow
- offensive and defensive POY

Even teams as good or better will need to luck into having the right schedule, including multiple mega road tests (as 2019 did in TX, Bama, GA)
