What popular bands still tour with little or no original members?

Foreigner tours with Mick Jones as the only person in the band prior to 2004.

There are others out there too. This is smart and other bands, even with intact lineups, should bring in younger “members” that can keep the band going forever as the originals die or retire.

This keeps a permanent income stream for their heirs.

And while major bands like The Rolling Stones or Van Halen don’t need to do this because they are worth hundreds of millions. Lots of popular bands, even famous classics, are not rich.

Not sure. Not uncommon for former members get a one time pay out.

30 yrs ago an act calling itself The Del Vikings ("Come Go With Me", 1957) played a motel lounge in Jackson MS, not exactly a hotbed of doo wop. A curious booking - I don't know if any original members were involved.

Around that same time "The Byrds" played Meridian MS. I think this was the touring group operated by drummer Michael Clarke, which the other original members sued over. Clarke died of alcoholism not long after, & the issue became moot when Crosby bought the name rights about 10 yrs later.

Often one or two members will buy the touring rights. I know a guy from The Guess Who did this.

Clifford & Cook toured w/o Fogerty & he filed suit, forcing them to be called Credence Clearwater Revisited.

John Densmore wrote an entire book about his suit to stop the Doors touring under that name.

When I saw them this year Mick Jones wasn't even with them and he wasn't at several shows before or after, if any on the tour at all.

There are a lot of them in the metal world. Judas Priest and Pantera are probably the biggest

The Temptations still tour with Otis Williams, the lone original member, and 3-4 other guys you’ve probably never heard of.

I don't know how famous Tangerine Dream is (their best-known work is probably the theme from Risky Business), but their lineup is pretty well-known for its near-constant turnover since they debuted in 1967. Their founding member, Edgar Froese, died in 2015 and had a hand-chosen successor to carry on after he passed away. Their most senior current member joined in 2005.

They're not only still touring and recording new material but they remix their old material too. Really neat little arrangement those guys have.

Even the mighty Metallica is down to just 50% of its original members, if you wanna get technical.

Toto is now jut Steve Lukather and Joseph Williams (and David Paich occasionally).

Asia is now just Geoff Downes and Carl Palmer.

Survivor is now just Frankie Sullivan.

Journey is now just Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain.

None of the original members of Quiet Riot remain though Rudy Sarzo has recently rejoined the band.

Only Greg Dulli and John Curly remain of The Afghan Whigs.

The Guess Who. To me, that band is Cummings and Bachman. I think only the drummer remains, and I don't know his name.

Steve Howe tours and records as Yes. He didn’t join the group until the Yes Album- the third they recorded. None of the original members from the beginning ( or even the “classic” lineup) are in his current band.

Social Distortion with Mike Ness. But I've always felt it's been "his" band.

I’ve heard that Mick Jones doesn’t even contractually have to perform at every gig.

Chicago is pretty much a different band than the 70s except for a horn player or two.
