Hello,

I read this thread from the beginning and I think this is one of the most useful training advices I got. I also read the third edition of the Greyskull book and will start a Greyskull program again next week.

I am 53 years old, 98 kg, 193 cm tall, training for many years, but many years with too compilcated programms (intermediatebsyndrom). Also diet could be better, especially more protein.
I will do the basic plan with chins on press ,day and rows on bench day.
I also will do Fm pushups and Chins on non working days.
I already ran a greyskull programm for 12 weeks one year ago, strength gains were good, but I got lower back issues and ran out of gas (I also did burpees).

This time I will be more conservatice. I will do rotating lifts (bench, press, iincline bench, squat, deadlift, front squat), no burpees, just walking (what I did a lot the last months) and the bodyweight chins and pushups on non working days.
I plan to do an A off off B off off C off off setup, that means trainiing 5 times in two weeks.

The other option is to do a 3 days a week schedule but only 1x5, 1x5+ (I thinkI am able to give a good amount of intensity on this last set).

What do You think is better concerning recovery?

My current lifts are:
Benchpress, 105 kg x5
Chins weightes with 20 kg x5
Squat 90 kg x 10
Dedlift 115 kg x 5

I want to get my Squat and deadlift up, because I am week there in comparison with the bench.
Also get a bit leaner and put some more mass on.

Any tips would be welcome.

Br
Alex

I apologize if this has been talked about a lot. Does anyone use the Greyskull app? I bought the lifetime subscription. It seems very confusing. I clicked on burn fat workout and has push press, squats, 20 minute walk the first workout. 2nd workout is a 1 mile jog, every day seems a different one. Once I click start it just takes me to control panel page. I go to home page and only options every day are push press and squats, nothing else. Confusing so far

Ok bad eyes. Next workout is bench and deadlift. I wonder why the 1 mile jog isn’t showing? I assume the workouts get more as time goes on or does it just stay with 2 workouts?

I got bad news for ya, shroomy....

This Greyskull app has been discussed a little bit on another message board (it's new-ish, and I don't want to link it because I don't know what's appropriate or acceptable on TD.com about linking to other message boards, but you can do a search for Greyskull nation forums or message board and you'll find it), and that app is not officially linked or affiliated or associated with Greyskull or Johnny Pain at all.

I'm not saying it's a bad app though. I've never used it so I don't know. Only 1 user has ever asked about it and he's had similar comments as you have, but like I said, JP didn't have anything to do with the development of that app. I wouldn't use it based off what I've heard about it. I would stick with reading and reviewing the book and building your own program based off the principles therein.

Again, hope I don't break any rules by referencing this other message board, but on the Greyskull message board you can ask JP questions directly as well.

Even though that message board is new and doesn't have a lot of active members posting right this moment there are still several people over there who have been working within the Greyskull world for a long time and can answer your questions. Also, LSU777 is on THIS message board, (who is one of those Greyskull long timers) can guide you better than that app ever will. I've also seen him post a few times over there as well. Just making you aware.

I'm sure that the person that made that app did so with the best intentions, but it sounds like the developer may have abandoned it as a working project and that's why it doesn't function well. JP has mentioned the strong possibility of developing an app in the future, he has a lot of plans for 2024 it sounds like, lots of content on the horizon coming from him.

This is my personal way of "paraphrasing" Greyskull methodology, for lack of a better term, you are building a structure of some kind, house, shed, gazebo, ritual sacrifice pyramid, etc. There will be "layers" to the construction. The main barbell lifts are a layer, accessory lifts are another layer, cardio conditioning is a layer, bodyweight exercises are another layer. I think JP says in the book that he considers the bodyweight exercises, often called "Homework" to be the base layer, then the main barbell lifts are layered on top of that, followed by the accessories which I think are referred to as "Add-ons" and then layered on top is the conditioning. Trust me, the book explains it all very clearly. I could continue, but the early pages of this thread already explain it well enough.

Not that he owes anyone anything, but anybody new to the world of Greyskull should be aware that JP is incredibly flakey.
Not quite Martin Beckham, but close.

LSU777 and others have fortunately kept this great program/methodology alive for everyone (and I do believe it is still the best introduction to lifting for the average swinging dick), but counting on JP to deliver on anything with any semblance of consistency is foolish. Temper expectations is all I’m saying.

The books are out there and this thread is the most active and comprehensive resource otherwise.

Fair points, and in the grand scheme of things, I'm one of those new to Greyskull people, and one of the first questions I had about Greyskull as I read the main book this past June '23 was, "Where is this guy now?" and "Where are these "Strength Villain Forums?" that don't seem to exist anymore?" that keep getting referenced....?

A person would have questions if they searched for anything like "GSLP" or "greyskull LP" they ended up reading lots of reddit posts from 5 years ago, or posts on other message boards that are years old as well. What happened? There's clearly a gap in the years between when Greyskull became a thing the wider world knew about and this past fall when JP re-activated this new message board. Like you say, he doesn't owe anyone anything, but I'm both forgiving and patient, and I liked what I read in his book and I like all the things I've read on this forum and the new Greyskull forums, so I withhold all judgement for now and I'll wait for what is said to be coming soon. Life happens, I don't require/deserve/need an explanation for that gap. Hoping for the best with the future.

Martin Beckham doesn't ring a bell? Do you mean Martin Berkhan, the LeanGains guy? I haven't thought about that dude in years.

As far as not owing people anything he owes people a ton for taking pre orders of books he never delivered on. Owes tons

As far a gslp either post here or on his forms. Prolly better answer here

As far a kino, Greg is a douche but he slays and has awesome physique

As far as Martin, still active, as much or more than jp with GS, but also nothing that can’t be found on Reddit

Well...this is not good...doesn't turn me away from JP or the Greyskull world, but that is indeed "not good". I had no idea. Hopefully he makes it right in any way he can.

I’m doing fat cut route with GS. It has me doing 20-30 minute walk with a rotation press/squat and bench/deadlift. I’ll be doing 3 times a week. Was curious about adding once a week jogging a mile and rotating that with jump rope for as long as I can go, but make it to 20 minutes worth. Basically following script with 2 main workouts each time, adding an add on or 2, along with walk. Once a week doing a jog. Not sure if that’s overdoing it or not as far as GS is concerned

I’m learning. I bought the ebook.

Eta: I was also considering replacing flat bench with incline bench or rotating them on days it has me doing bench I do regular flat bench, next time it has me doing bench, doing incline bench

You can definitely do a jog once a week, that should help you. It won't be too much. If yer gonna swap incline for flat I'd just stick to the incline for several weeks straight before going back to flat or vice versa. Or you can stick with incline until you get stuck and have to reset. If you have access to an adjustable bench you can just change the angle and ditch the flat bench altogether, alternate from a higher incline to a lower incline. Many lifters do this. They say it's easier on the shoulders.

Agree on Greg’s physique, although I’m skeptical that he built it using his own programs/methods haha. Seems to have looked essentially the same for the past decade.

-couple choices....add in a conditioning exercise from the conditioning book after each session. takes 10-12 min

- add the 360 min fatloss chellange trying to get 360 min of fasted walking a week

- pick one of the challenges from the challenges ebook and chase that

JP is still a good guy and good person, not perfect by any means but is a good dad and tries to do the right thing. dont let it sour you on the methods for sure as they are some of the best ever put out.
