I work with college students and when I ask about the game the following Monday, I am amazed at how many of them didn't go to the game. Most say they would rather watch the games from home. I don't know the cause, but today's student just doesn't seem to be into football as much as in the past in my assessment.
With higher admission standards, you get more cerebral academic oriented students. A greater percentage don't care about athletics as much. No more Billy Bobs from Bunkie that were LSU football die hards. A whole new student section demographic is in place now and it blends in well with the new Tiger Stadium demographic. It aint the same my friends, except in sporadic and isolated spots or during wretched excess over the top big games like Alabama at night on national TV.

You hold you and your peers in pretty high regard when it comes to football recruits. I can assure you, as the uncle of 2 kids recruited by LSU in the last 5 years, that they don't give a shite about Tim in their Western Civ class.

You have to admit, though. LSU has still always made a point to have one or two big OOC opponents on their schedule. That's something few SEC schools can say.

Yes, absolutely. That's why what they're doing now is so disheartening to people who've been following the team and going to games in Tiger Stadium for a long time.

I'd love to see the conference and/or NCAA step up and do something about it. Bama fans seem to not tire of defending their garbage schedules ad nauseum, but even they have run into issues with attendance and fan dissent this year.

I'm sure they care more about drunk Uncle Bubba that they only see around holidays.

We were all students at LSU (at least most of us) and will, to a person, tell you that the student section is not nearly as loud now as it was in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's or early 2000's. It has been my experience (albeit anecdotal) that the South End Zone is louder than the student section

Sat in the SEZ for the Aggy game and there were a ton of recent graduates/25-35 year olds who were very loud and into the game. I wouldn't say the SEZ is LOUDER than the Student Section though.

At first we started going through the in-state schools, and there was at least sort of a novelty to that.
Does Alleva/Ausberry really think we would all rather see LSU play Towson, Kent.State and Idaho than Tulane, USL and Tech?

If you're NOT going to make an attempt to schedule at least one decent OOC mid-major for the season ticket holders, fans and alums, then at minimum open the season every year with our former hated rival in "The Slime", then bring in the Wranglin Acadians and Tech. I'm sure everybody would rather see the Tigers play Tulane, USL and La.Tech than those out of state sisters of the poor. I don't know why it's so hard for the LSUAD to do this. Yeah, yeah, I know all about scheduling and how it's done years in advance. Playing the in-state schools would be the lesser of two evils.

My only response to this is to remind you that when you make ridiculous comments that it impacts your credibility in other conversations.

They really don't care that much about either, specifically....not a difficult concept to understand.
...maybe factor #985 on a list of 1000...(& that's being generous)
Sorry to burst your bubble.

This is my first post. What about it is so ridiculous? This whole notion that there is something wrong with the student section and singling them out is what's ridiculous.

quote:

quote: And as an alum, you should recognize that the school exists for the students. As alumni, we should be advocates for the students over ourselves and the administration. That means encouraging students to participate in the fabric of the school community--not bitching that we can't buy their seats. If we, as alums, create a hostile environment for the students, students will go to schools that are more "student-centered."

Pretty much sums up my feelings as an alumni as well. The players sing the alma mater with the students for a reason. The team is comprised of their peers. They chose to come play for LSU because of the atmosphere the students bring. I don't want that messed with because "Bill" from accounts receivable thinks he should have better seats 7 days a year because he went to LSU 30 years ago.

I was there for multiple in-home visits for both. Their dad was killed when they were little by a drunk driver coming home from a family reunion in Atlanta. I can assure you the football players don't give a frick about you podnuh. The things discussed were playing time, switching positions, majors, jobs after college, how to handle the whole process, etc. Never once did the student body come up.

First of all I am sorry for the kid's loss that really is a terrible situation. Just talking about the student body isn't at all what I am referring to. The students do play a big part when they go on campus visits and get a look at student life. That is where it makes the difference. They have to feel like they will fit in on campus. If you still think it makes no difference then that's fine there is no convincing you and you are not changing my opinion it.

I never said it didn't. The campus tours are nice but there is very little interaction with the general student body. The people that make the impressions are their player host and his friends. The latter making a bigger impression if they happen to have boobs.

A lot of people want to buy season tickets and can't simply because of supply-demand.

The athletic office wants more money.

Solution: charge corporations double. They'll pay. If they don't, sell those season tickets to the fans who really want them.

Corporate owned seats are the ones usually empty in the first and fourth quarters.

No thanks. I have better things with my afternoon than to have to wait 3 hours for the game to start and then be forced to sit through the entire game when we're beating someone 42-0 at halftime.

This shouldn't turn into a 6-7 hour event
