I mean, Rattler fricking sucked and it was clear from week 1 he sucked. I have to imagine this translated to the film room and practice field.

I mean, Rattler was the odds-on Heisman favorite entering the season, and was 1st team all-conference the year before. Caleb is retarded if he legitimately expected to be given the job as a true freshman week one.

Rattler was only the starter b/c he was supposed to be a big deal (he was not).

What does that have to be with being awful and clearly inferior to CW?

Is he retarded for thinking the better player should play?

Caleb appears to he the poster child for QBs these days. And I don’t mean for his success.

If you come into a team with an established starter, you don’t just walk in and immediately become the starter. Not unless Mack Brown promised you the job in order for you to sign.

Rattler already knew the playbook and had a rapport with teammates. And IIRC Oklahoma was set up for a major playoff run so they had to hit the ground running.

If you take over a team with few expectations, it is easier to start a true freshman QB.

I get this, but it's clear that Williams, even early on, was the superior option.

He was in film and practice with Rattler and could see this every day.

This isn't an Uncle Rico scenario

The days of Joe Montana sitting behind players just because they're upperclassmen are long gone.

Hell Matt Barkley started Day 1 at USC and USC had like 4-5 QBs on the roster, guys who paid their dues.

That was over 10 years ago....shite, I think Ron Powlus started day 1 for Notre Dame and that was 25 years ago. Why would it be petulant or out of the ordinary for Caleb to wonder why he isn't starting?

Starting as a true freshman is rare unless there is no incumbent or a lot of injuries.

FFS, Peyton Manning only started as a freshman because everyone in front of him got hurt during his first game at Tennessee.

Considering the QB has more responsibilities than just throwing a ball, you tend to want experience to be able to sniff out bad matchups, know when to call an audible, etc., which doesn’t necessarily show up in scrimmages.

It is easy to have hindsight and say “He should have started” now that he won a fricking Heisman but a lot of hotshot young QBs don’t necessarily amount to shite once they see the field.

Probably not.. I know because of some personality quirks most of you hate the guy(I think that's why)... but dude going #1 overall for a reason... nothing a sure thing but even with my purple and gold googles I could tell he better than the other QBs in this draft

Because they're rarely the best option.

It's clear that was not the case here, and Williams knew it.

Rattler proved he could not do these things. That's the problem.

The problem is that you're looking at this only from the Williams angle and ignoring Rattler.

Would be shocking. Not many first picks go to a more loaded team than what he'll have in year 1 and year 2.

Caleb is going to be an all time bust. Just so many red flags around this loser.

It's certainly theoretically possible. His lack of development mentally after OU makes me doubt it's likely.

Whatever shade you want to throw at Williams, basically applies to Rattler but more intensely.

This isn't like a Haskins/Burrow situation, where one guy (Haskins) got the edge by being completely different than the other (Burrow), and the former backup ultimately succeeded at a higher level by having a completely different (and more translatable) skillset/ability.

True story. Spencer Rattler was undefeated that year. The losses were after CW took over.

Yeah I’m not mad that a 5* all world recruit was pissed he wasn’t starting. Ratler wasn’t good that year and any time Williams came in, the offense was significantly better.

Of all the things to be wary of Williams’ attitude over. This isn’t one.

If he’s the next Mahomes, his arrogance and selfishness won’t matter. If he’s the next Kyler Murray (and that’s what I think he is), his attitude and inability to handle adversity will keep the Bears down like the Cardinals.

Do you not want your QB to have the utmost belief in himself? I want a QB that’s confident and borderline cocky instead of some fake humble dude

With Williams, I don't believe he was mad because he is a competitor. I believe he was mad because he's a whiny baby who has never been told no. It fits with the rest of his persona.
