YOU:

A. That isn't answering my question. At all.

B. That isn't a straight line, either. It's concentric. Concentric is by definition a circle or arc. Not a straight line.

ME:

Yes.

IF you follow the exact same concentric course and Latitude.

Now again -- CAN you back up your "Science" on this most basic of questions that your Spinning Ball theory claims? (and that is ALL it is):

How do you know you live on a 1000 mph Spinning Ball, orbiting the Sun at 66,600 mph?

Not a trick question either.

So, no.

Agreed. You do that a lot.

Still no picture… errrrr I mean… screenshot.

Gotta make sure I use the right verbiage with you.

. La had a 99.78% totality in May 1984. Sure, the local new reported on it maybe a week before advising how to observe it. Other than that it was a nothing burger other than having to turn your headlights on in the middle of the day for a few minutes.

I'm sorry, but given the fact that many in this thread can't even remember what happened with the 2017 eclipse, I just can't trust your foggy memory of 1984.

ETA: The May 1984 eclipse wasn't even a total eclipse. See, ya can't trust folk's memory.

I think the aliens built those for different reasons. The eclipse part is coincidence.

Whaaat? I work in Houston, in logistics, and have not heard anything like this. Matter of fact, we've got 45 flatbed loads scheduled for Monday. Where the hell is all of this going on?

Over huge parts of Texas. Like 70 counties.

It’s just oversized loads so maybe that’s why you haven’t heard it.

Oh. And of course if there's no "Spinning Ball", there can be no actual operational "Coriolis Effect".

I'll just leave your query and my response (that you didn't come back to) right here:

It doesn't exist. STILL (Is it in your manual?)

No gunner "accounts" for a "spinning" earth.

I have never been a gunner but you can be damn sure Redlegs use the Coriolis effect when they fire, because they want their rounds to hit where they intend them to. For your edification there is a excerpt from the Army's Field Artillery Manual Cannon Gunnery:

ETA to include the link to the full field manual:

Field Manual PDF

As for long range precision rifle I competed in rifle sports for over 40 years and after I flamed out of the Olympic Trials for '88 and finished shooting in college in '89 I ended my 3 position small bore career and started shooting in various long range classes, mainly F-Class and then more recently dabbled in ELR shooting. I quit competition in 2020.

In all those years I did not know a single long range precision shooter that didn't use Coriolis effect compensation. It is in every long range ballistics table and every modern ballistics computer... period. It is a second order effect on the projectile. Note if you are shooting due East or West it is technically the Eothvos effect and due North or South it is the Coriolis effect any other azimuth and it is a mixture of the two but most shooters just refer to it as the Coriolis effect, both are a result of a spinning earth. One of the first things you will determine as a long range precision shooter when arriving at a match is your latitude and your azimuth of fire.

Be aware it is not really significant enough to be used in many forms of practical shooting like hunting but it is in precision shooting where conditions are far less dynamic and your range is known to the inch.

If you shoot due East with an average velocity long range precision rifle with no Coriolis comp you will wind up about 5 inches high because the earth is falling away from your bullet, due east and you will be about 5" low. Due North or South in the Nothern Hemisphere at mid-latitudes will hit about 5 inches right, the opposite in the Sothern Hemisphere. Again these numbers are based on generic LRPR rifle velocities.

If you google Corelois effect and shooting you will get hundreds of links.

If you want to see how it is viewed in ballistics you can check out this book:

Amazon: Applied Ballistics For Long Range Shooting 3rd Edition

Here is part of the description of one of the ballistics/environmental meters I use:

quote:
For long-range shooters, the Kestrel Ballistics line of environmental meters are the industry standard to ensure hitting your target on the first shot. The built-in ballistics solver from Applied Ballistics calculates your bullet’s drag profile measuring corrections for Aerodynamic Jump, Spin Drift, Coriolis, and Drop Scale Factoring to achieve accurate extended long-range shots. The Kestrel also measures many environmental factors like humidity, wind speed, wind direction, and more that can all have an effect on your shot. All of these measurements, combined with the ballistics solver allows you to hit your target with confidence.
emphasis mine

Kestrel

At this point you are being willfully ignorant because I gave you this information before. When you say no gunner or shooter uses Coriolis effect compensation to me it is like telling a fisherman that no fishermen use hooks.

Copy and paste does not transfer links so if you want to refer to the links I provided this is the post:

I mean I can get not really GAF about it (though not to the point of being so uninterested you don’t even go look outside for a few minutes even though you already live in the path).

But it’s funny how all of the people actively crapping on others enjoying it have one thing in common: they can’t even tell the difference between an annular, partial, and a total eclipse.
