Rarely as a kid. Way less than once a month.

Now we eat out a few times a month. Less than once a week.

But I agree there’s a lot of families eating out most days now. Which is a good portion of why our country is waist deep in debt and fat as hell

Every single Friday night. That was the thing.

Ours was going and picking up a Mr. Gattis back when you could only eat a slice or two. Other than that "eating out", anything else usually was a matter of necessity due to schedule.

What do you think happens with the food you eat at home? To your point, if it all goes down the toilet anyway, why not just stop eating?

Once every couple of months and most of the time it was some local place that was incredibly average

People used to have a lot of fresh produce and game at home, this isn't the case anymore. I think half of the Southern population had access to a farm to pick produce back in the day.

The microwave was the debil. It changed eating habits and made Americans incredibly lazy and prone to processed foods.

Cooking seems to be a rare skill today.

Getting an occasional bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken was a big deal.

not often and if we did it was cheap. I was a senior in HS when I had my first steak.

As a kid? Rarely. Like maybe once or twice a month. Might have picked up McDonalds or something more often for lunch on the weekends, but in terms of go “out to eat” at a restaurant? Not often.

My kids? Once a week. At the least.

I make a lot more money than my parents did though.

Pretty much about once a week. Sometimes with other families that my parents knew. About once every 2 months with our extended family on Saturday night after church.

I can count them on one hand, grew up in the 70's w two Deep South blue collar parents. We weren't poor - lived in a four bedroom brick house, two car garage, nice ski boat. But they weren't foolish with their money, unlike people of today.

Instead, they'd bring home a bushel of peas. Us kids would groan cuz we knew we'd have to shell all the peas on Fri night / Sat so they could can them on Sunday.

I follow my parents lead. We rarely eat out, aren't foodies. Our kids don't seem to care either. I know people that will tell you in the same breath that they are struggling financially but can't break the twice a week restaurant habit. I just don't get it.

Very rarely. I grew up on a farm in a remote area with no restaurants. I still choose to cook at home most of the time since I like to control ingredients, fat and sugar content, etc

I can recall going out to a sit down dinner 2 times in my childhood (after a car accident and when my sister graduated hs). Now, my kids eat a meal out every meal, everyday (panera, starbucks, mcd, pizza, chick fil-A, texas roadhouse, ect)

Hardly ever. It was a treat when my dad brought home something from a local seafood place during lent. Maybe once a summer we’d go to fun fair park and if we were lucky we would go to Chi-Chi’s after .

I guess pretty often compaed to these responses. My parents enjoyed good restaurants, so we frequented Tony Angelo's, Arnauds, Galatoires, TuJacques, Commanders, Pascal's etc. Not every night, but a few times a week.

Every Sunday after church and about once a month we went to a chain steakhouse.

Of course the real treat was when this was sitting on the table when we came in for supper..

Yep, Saturday nights at Grandma's shelling peas, having to watch Hee Haw and Lawrence Welk.

Probably half of our food came from the Grandmas farm. She even had a Sorghum Mill and churned her own butter as well. .

We were lower middle class and it seemed like we would go out to eat about 3-4 times a year. It was always a big deal for us kids.
