Here's the main difference: those people are committing a grave sin in the eyes of the Church when they do those things and are putting their immortal souls in jeopardy as a result. There has never been a formal doctrine or dogma allowing priests to take advantage of children.

Formal sure. But when your informal doctrine is to cover up the abuse, either by paying off the family, or by using high powered attorneys to scare the living shite out of the accuser and their families, or by using the power of the church to silence the accuser and their families by using their influence in their places of employment, (all of which essentially destroys the child who was abused) and then re-assigning the sexual predator clergy, allowing them to continue the destruction of children and their families time and again, then the defacto formal doctrine is not only to allow it, but to condone it, and cover it up at the expense of those who have suffered the most from it. It's evil, any way you want to slice it.

The United Methodist Church just endorsed mortal sin. The Catholic Church has never and will never do that.

See above. Nor can you say has never, because a large part of the Protestant revolt was over the selling of "indulgences" which absolutely is an endorsement of mortal sin.

How many more churches are going to bail out of the burning plane known as the UMC?

Mainline protestant churches are in decline.

It's beyond that

I asked a pastor of a church doing 50m investment campaign if they were worried about sinking money into a church that was still part of a mainline denomination they're at odds with. For those that don't know, the denomination schism war has been very costly at times, as many TEC and UMC congregations know.

His response was "we think [our church] will survive a lot longer than the denomination will." He's probably right.

If you are going to cheapen the institution to this point,
why bother with marriage at all?

I'm not a Catholic, but are people here not aware that the rate of sexual abuse is higher in Protestant churches than it is in Catholic Churches?

Those are the stats I have seen, anyway.

I can't imagine sitting in church on Sunday listening to a sermon from a guy who sucked a dick the night before.

AND he's proud of it, he'll be happy to tell you about it and he will tell you that he is SAVED and is going to Heaven.

That surprises no one who has knowledge of the leaders of the Methodist Church. Hell they were giving money to Angela Daves and the Soledad Brothers back in the 60's. They have been Leftest forever.

That are known about. You could make the case (as someone did above) that the Catholic Church has the means to subvert accusations more so than other churches.

Is there evidence that the other churches knew about abuse and simply transferred offenders to a different parish? This is a major part of the problem. At some leadership level in the Catholic Church it was at best tolerated.

There is no crime worse than sexually abusing the young people.

This comes the same time that Pope Francis finally spoke out against gender reassignment.

From what I’ve heard, the local Catholic parishes that offer the Latin Mass are experiencing increased attendance amount young parishioners. In my Diocese, it’s only offered at St Francis and John in Georgetown, KY.

So, there are still positive signs of church growth.

When the church which is supposed to preach against sin and a coming judgment, instead, embraces sin and forgoes preaching about sin, it is no longer a church, but instead, a social club.
