LSU footballs head coach should never be hired away from a place like ULL.

LSU did well with a guy that was once the head coach at Toledo.

Ohio State won a national title with a guy from Youngstown State.

Florida won a national title with a guy that was once the head coach at Bowling Green.

Everyone has to start somewhere. Napier was offered the Auburn job this last off-season. He turned it down when they demanded he kept certain assistant coaches.

Name them.

Have you guys forgotten that Woody just conducted a national coaching search for baseball. Lsu baseball is undisputed as a top 3 college baseball job. I think we landed about the 6th or 7th choice on Woody’s list. Having said that, I do like the Jay Johnson hire.

Coaching searches ain’t easy.

Just because you hire Aranda doesn’t mean there will be no offense.

He’s smart enough to know in today’s game he needs a good OC.

Same for Napier, o don’t think he will neglect the defense just because he’s an offense guy.

I think it's more likely Aranda has a good offense than Napier has a good defense, based on results and non-HC factors.

I think that Napier is more likely to have an edge in closing the deal with recruits, at least until Aranda can get some skins on the wall.

If Napier was at a G5 school outside of Louisiana, how often would his name come up on this board?

Napier turned down South Carolina and Auburn last year

Baylor is a genuinely woeful program.

I think you might need to look at their records from the previous 15 years. They lost a great coach due to off the field scandals. Then they lost a great coach to the NFL. Aranda was following that. Not a program in disarray.

we are judging both by what they are currently accomplishing at their respective jobs. Napier is at UL with a win over ISU. Played decent against Texas. Let's see the Baylor season play out.

Not really a fair comparison because Baylor has a much more difficult road ahead. A couple notes:
- Baylor also beat ISU & we will see how they do against UT next week.
- Baylor still has BYU, UT, OU, Kansas St as a legit challenge this season
- Who does Napier/UL have? I guess App St tonight should be a challenge. They play Liberty/Hugh Freeze on 11/20

I’m aware, just prefer less turnover there for once. It’s just where CFB is now too, this isn’t the SEC of old anymore

Utah in 2004 is on the level of ULL in 2021

The difference is Napier isn't one of the 5-7 best coaches in CFB history, which isn't a knock against him

wanna see how they both finish the season.

dave still has the tough part of his schedule coming up.

19 BYU Cougars (HC)

25 Texas Longhorns

at TCU Horned Frogs

4 Oklahoma Sooners

at Kansas State Wildcats

Texas Tech Red Raiders

if he can go 3-3 against the last part of that schedule i'd consider him.

napier needs to finish 6-1.

not sure who i would pick. i like both. i like dave, but obviously biased.

His offenses when OC at arizona st and clemson were decent to good, but not great. Napier would be a big risk IMO.
But so would aranda

I feel like that's an exaggeration. I know the MWC wasn't great back then but Utah usually played a couple OOC games that were worthwhile. In either case, I don't think this is the job for Billy Napier at this point in his career.

I think we're only going to have risky hires. I just can't see Fickell coming here. MAYBE Franklin, but I think he's got Hollywood in his sight.

It seems like the CFB bench is really weak. I like Aranda because I'll always defer to intelligence. Hell, there is also a theoretical shot he could get Herman here as OC (which would be hilarious) and start his own Saban-esque OC rehab program.

I'm not against Napier, but I can see his mental rigidity making his head explode if things don't go his way. He's not a gameday tactician and adjustments aren't his thing. I could see this happening on a program level/ He would certainly out-recruit Aranda early on, though. I think if we had success under Aranda that would come.

What I want are forward-thinking guys. The Brandon Staleys of CFB. I just don't know who these guys are.

Disarray maybe not, but Baylor basically went from an impossible place to win at to one that is just really really difficult. They still have an average/below average big 12 roster and the year Aranda stepped in they faced as much roster turnover as LSU did. It's not an easy job at all and he already has them up and running again.

As a first time coach he was handed a program in better shape than Rhule and Briles, but lets be fair he's also gotten them back up winning quicker than they were able to as well.
